This dataset is a polygon shapefile delineating the footprint of bathymetric data collected in October, 2021 for an approximately 500 meter (m) reach of the Kalamazoo River upstream of Plainwell, Michigan (MI). Bathymetric data in the river channel were collected with a single beam sonar and Acoustic Current Doppler Profiler operated along 2 longitudinal transects and 48 cross-sectional transects, respectively.

This dataset is a digital elevation model (DEM) comprising topographic and bathymetric data for an approximately 500 meter (m) reach of the Kalamazoo River upstream of Plainwell, Michigan (MI). The DEM was developed from elevation data collected by several different methods. Bathymetric data in the river channel were collected in October 2021 with a single beam sonar and Acoustic Current Doppler Profiler operated along 2 longitudinal transects and 48 cross-sectional transects, respectively. River bank topographic data were collected with a backpack-mounted terrestrial lidar unit concurrently with the bathymetric data. Lidar points were classified by a combination of automated and manual methods. Floodplain elevations...
The Kalamazoo River Area of Concern (AOC) in Michigan has multiple dams in various stages of removal. Following dam removal, river restoration activities will occur in impacted reaches. Hydrogeomorphic data from relatively undisturbed and hydraulically stable river reaches are commonly used to inform the design parameters of river restoration projects. Reference reaches should be selected that operate under similar prevailing boundary conditions as target restoration reaches, including water and sediment regime, valley and channel slope, valley confinement, bank heights, and riparian vegetation. The datasets contained in this data release represent the results of a geomorphic assessment of the Kalamazoo River to...

This dataset is a map of in-channel hydrogeomorphic units (HGUs) for an approximately 15 kilometer (km) reach of the Kalamazoo River between the Trowbridge Dam and Allegan, Michigan (MI). HGUs are the building blocks of the riverscape, including, for example, bars, banks, riffles, and pools. The HGUs were mapped with the automated Geomorphic Unit Tool (GUT; Bangen et al., 2017; Wheaton et al., 2015) run on a digital elevation model (DEM) comprising topographic and bathymetric data covering the channel bed, banks, and floodplain for Area 5 of the Kalamazoo River (Quantum Spatial, 2017). The DEM was created from topobathymetric aerial lidar data collected in November, 2016, combined with multibeam bathymetric data...

This dataset is a classified point cloud comprising topographic and bathymetric data for an approximately 500 meter (m) reach of the Kalamazoo River upstream of Plainwell, Michigan (MI). The dataset contains point elevation data collected by several different methods. Bathymetric data in the river channel were collected in October, 2021 with a single beam sonar and Acoustic Current Doppler Profiler operated along 2 longitudinal transects and 48 cross-sectional transects, respectively. River bank topographic data were collected with a backpack-mounted terrestrial lidar unit concurrently with the bathymetric data. All points from the respective datasets were projected to the same coordinate system. Points were classified...

ScienceBase brings together the best information it can find about USGS researchers and offices to show connections to publications, projects, and data. We are still working to improve this process and information is by no means complete. If you don't see everything you know is associated with you, a colleague, or your office, please be patient while we work to connect the dots. Feel free to contact sciencebase@usgs.gov.
