The Marcellus Shale Energy and Environment Laboratory (MSEEL) is part of the Northeast Natural Energy LLC (NNE) production facility on the Monongahela River in Monongalia County, West Virginia, USA. Natural gas extraction in the area creates large volumes of wastewater that may contain chemical compounds that pose risks to humans, animals, and the environment. The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) has been studying the organic compounds in water produced from shale gas wells and in 2014, NNE started drilling two production wells in the Marcellus Shale. The well, MIP (Morgantown Industrial Park) -5H, was completed the following year. Samples were collected from this well. Large volumes of wastewater fluids were produced...

From 2018 to 2024 surface waters (fresh and brackish), groundwater, and stormwater (runoff, re-use) samples were collected from sites with varying landuse (agricultural, forested, and urban) and streamflow conditions and analyzed at the Organic Geochemistry Research Laboratory in Lawrence, Kansas for the tire antioxidant 6PPD (6-p-phenylenediamine; N-(1,3-Dimethylbutyl)-N’-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine) and ozonated transformation product 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-Q, 2-((4-Methylpentan-2-yl)amino)-5-(phenylamino)cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione)). There were 78 urban sampling sites in Colorado (N=15), Connecticut (N=1), Georgia (N=1), Hawaii (N=22), Kansas (N=7), Michigan (N=1), Minnesota (N=1), North Carolina (N=1), Oklahoma...

Oklahoma State University South-Central Research Station (SCRS) was used to conduct research to understand the chemical composition of various water types and their potential environmental and human health effects. The study area provided the opportunity to study five water types: (1) receiving surface water (Washita River), (2) urban stormwater, (3) wastewater treatment plant effluent used for irrigation, (4) rain-induced runoff from an effluent-irrigated cornfield, and (5) rain-induced runoff from a dryland cornfield. Fifteen water samples were collected from August 2018 to October 2019. In addition, two composite above ground whole-corn plant samples (i.e., stem, leaves, grain) were collected from the effluent...
