This data release includes SnowModel output for three headwater study areas in Colorado at seven spatial resolutions and from two forcing datasets over a 40-year period from water year 1980 to 2019. The resolutions include 30 m, 50 m, 100 m, 150 m, 250 m, 500 m, and 1,000 m. The model was run with a 3-hour temporal resolution from September 1, 1980 to August 31, 2019. Two meteorology forcing datasets were used, including National Land Data Assimilation System-2 at 1/8th degree (about 12 km) resolution data and the Weather Research and Forecasting model data at 4 km resolution. This produced dataset includes spatially aggregated records of measurements and observations from public and private organizations across the Upper Missouri River Basin. For this dataset the Upper Missouri River Basin is defined as Hydrologic Unit Code 1002-1013, and includes the states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Streamflow measurements are an essential part of understanding the relationship between streamflow permanence and climatic and physical factors. For the purpose of this investigation, all streamflow observations were identified as perennial, non-perennial, or pooled to be used in the PROSPER (PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence) model.

The PROSPER output rasters represent the estimates of probability of annual streamflow permanence produced by the PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence (PROSPER) model, for years 1989 through 2021, in the upper Missouri River basin and parts of the Great Basin, Upper Colorado River basin, and Pacific Northwest hydrographic regions of the United States. The PROSPER model is a raster-based empirical model with outputs representing probabilistic predictions of an unregulated and minimally impaired stream channel in the study area having year-round flow.
