This dataset is part of a study to examine the condition of oak savannas in the southern Great Lakes (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin) and to understand how management has contributed to ground layer restoration. If not destroyed, oak savanna have experienced fire suppression, causing decline in these fire dependent systems. Management includes prescribed burning, shrub layer thinning or both. The data presented here represents a summary of the raw data for structural modeling of how these management action influence savanna ground layer restoration.

Bee-Gap describes the ecology, life-history, and distribution of 3,925 bee species in the United States that have geographical data and verified taxonomy. The database was constructed by compiling information from a broad range of internet sources and peer-reviewed journal articles. The 10 traits included in the database are: native status (native versus exotic/introduced), state and territory presence/absence, adult habitat, nesting strategy, voltinism, sociality, host bee species (for parasitic bees only), foraging strategy (generalist vs specialist), known host plants, and tongue length.

This data release contains soil and vegetation data collected along a post glacial chronosequence associated with populations of oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus) at the Indiana Dunes National Park. The post glacial chronosequence includes sand dunes and moraines, representing a successional gradient from woodland transition, to oak savanna, woodland and forest, to oak hickory forests on the Lake Border Moraine. Soil samples were collected from August 24, 2017 to September 1, 2017; vegetation cover data (percent cover by species) were collected from 1/4-meter squared plots (0.5 by 0.5 m) where the soil samples were taken. DNA extracted from soil and rhizosphere samples were analyzed for bacterial communities...

This dataset is the third installment of a yearly connectivity update for forested habitat within the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative's (GLRI) Terrestrial Habitats & Connectivity (TH&C) work group's Pilot Area. The Pilot Area is a region of the northern Great Lakes Basin between Ashland, WI and the Keweenaw Peninsula and is bounded by Lake Superior in the north and the basin boundary in the south, including a 70 km buffer. Each year the TH&C selects project proposals for funding within the pilot area. These proposals involve either restoration, research, or land acquisition aimed at improving or increasing forest connectivity in this area. The intended purpose of each year’s update is to understand the effects...
