These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the North Platte Natural Resources District, used two surface geophysical techniques, capacitively coupled and direct-current continuous resistivity profiling, to map near-surface lithologies beneath the Interstate and Tri-State Canals in the spring and summer of 2004. This coverage represents the average electrical resistivity of sediments within the upper 8 meters below selected parts...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) and magnetic survey data were collected during October 2014 in a 553-square-kilometer area that includes the East Poplar oil field on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in northeastern Montana, USA. Data surround the city of Poplar and extend south into the Missouri River floodplain. Data were acquired with the SkyTEM301 transient electromagnetic helicopter-borne system together with a Geometrics G-822 magnetometer. The AEM average depth of investigation is about 80 m. The survey was flown at a nominal flight height of 30 m above terrain along north-south oriented flight lines; the majority of lines had a nominal spacing of 200 m with a sub-block area in the central portion of the oil...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board compiled and analyzed data on evaporative water loss at produced water disposal ponds at Midway-Sunset, Buena Vista, Elk Hills, McKittrick, Cymric, South Belridge, North Belridge, and Lost Hills Oil Fields in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley (SWSJV), Kern County, California. Isotopic results for samples collected at the inlet to (influent) and within percolation and evaporation ponds (effluent) were compiled from the California State Water Resources Control Board GeoTracker database at four commercial disposal facilities (Maricopa West, Maricopa East, McKittrick 1 and 1-3, and McKittrick 1-1) at the Midway-Sunset...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) and magnetic survey data were collected during October 2016 along 1,443 line kilometers in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley near Lost Hills, California. These data were collected in support of groundwater salinity mapping and hydrogeologic framework development as part of the U.S. Geological Survey California Oil, Gas, and Groundwater program and the California State Water Resources Control Board’s Program of Regional Monitoring of Water Quality in Areas of Oil and Gas Production. Minimally processed binary AEM data received from the contractor were imported into the Aarhus Workbench software (Aarhus Geosoftware, Aarhus, Denmark) and processed. Filters were applied to inclinometer...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board compiled and analyzed data to determine the approximate extent of plumes from produced water disposal ponds during 2016-2018 when airborne electromagnetic survey data were collected near the Midway-Sunset, Buena Vista, Elk Hills, McKittrick, Cymric, North Belridge, South Belridge, and Lost Hills Oil Fields in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley (SWSJV), Kern County, California. Data were compiled from documents available in the California State Water Resources Control Board GeoTracker database and the USGS National Water Information System. Geochemistry data collected at groundwater monitoring wells were analyzed...
