This dataset represents North Atlantic beaches in 2015. The data are part of a larger project, Inventory of Habitat Modifications to Sandy Oceanfront Beaches in the U.S. Atlantic Coast Breeding Range of the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) as of 2015: Maine to North Carolina. As of 2015, 1,742.16 miles (2,803.73 kilometers [km]) of sandy shoreline was present between Georgetown, ME, and the North Carolina-South Carolina state boundary, with 1,650.68 miles (2,656.51 km) of sandy beach habitat present and 90.88 miles (146.26 km) where sandy beach habitat was absent seaward of hard stabilization structures, or armor.
