Summary

This collection is comprised of digital, slide and print photographs taken during minerals related field projects from 1970-2020. There are approximately 35,800 photos and slides that need to be culled, documented and archived. 81% of the photos are in digital format and most need to be manually matched with their locations from geologists’ field notes, although a small percentage have locations and descriptions that could easily be archived. The remaining 19% are slide and print format that need the same attention but are in fair to good condition for scanning purposes. There are 50 videos that are also part of this collection. These photos document field sites, geologic features, landscapes and landforms from the following 1:250,000 [...]

Material Request Instructions

Select individual photos may be available through DGGS publications as figures within scientific reports. As we document and archive the photos through our custom built web based interface, the photos will available for public inspection and use at that time.

Purpose

This collection of field photos preserves a wide range of information such as difficult-to-describe textures and structures, transient outcrops and surficial processes, and project histories that are the underpinning of DGGS’s scientific work. Preserving and archiving these photos will help advance exploration and knowledge of Alaska’s natural resources and mitigate the possible risks of geologic hazards.

Rights

All photographs are owned by the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys.
