Summary
This data release presents orthoimagery and elevation data based on aerial imagery of the Alaska coastline between Icy Cape and Cape Prince of Wales. These data products and the source aerial imagery were generated by Fairbanks Fodar for the U.S. Geological Survey. Aerial imagery was collected in 2016 between August 29 and September 4 and extends from the shoreline to 400-4000 meters inland. Photographs were captured using a Nikon D800E mounted on a Cessna 170B. Data products were derived from aerial images and precise Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation data using structure-from-motion (SfM) techniques. Summary
This data release presents orthoimagery and elevation data based on aerial imagery of the Alaska coastline between Icy Cape and Cape Prince of Wales. This dataset includes point cloud data in LAZ format as well as orthoimagery and digital elevation models presented as Cloud Optimized Geotiffs (COGs) with 10-20 cm cell size.
Users are encouraged to use the Tile Index shapefile to identify orthoimagery and/or elevation data files that are appropriate to a specific area of interest. The Tile Index shapefile provides an outline of the data in each orthoimagery and elevation data file as well as the name of the file. Once the appropriate filenames are identified, users can either download files to their local server or stream the Cloud Optimized Geotiff directly to any COG-supporting GIS.

Purpose
Fairbanks Fodar was contracted by the USGS to acquire aerial photography and to generate structure-from-motion products including orthoimagery, digital elevation models, and elevation point clouds. USGS researchers use the orthorectified imagery and elevation data to delineate shoreline position and characterize coastal geomorphology.
