Collection of reports containing from one to up to several hundred pages and water well files related to the MX Missile Project of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The collection is in 2 4-drawer filing cabinets. The geologic/hydrologic reports are kept at the NBMG, and some years ago, the cultural reports were sent to the Nevada Historical Society. The "Amount" is based on the number of reports and files listed on a typed index that may need revision.
MX Files
The area covered by the project is part of eastern and central Nevada. The collection is indexed by a typed list of reports and files in a binder, which needs to be reviewed against what is in the collection. The collection may be considered to become part of the Engineering files which was entered into Open File Report Database as part of this Inventory Project. Though the collection is adequately stored for present usage, the files are paper and are slowly degrading with use. The MX collection items will eventually be scanned as TIFs and converted to PDFs for the NBMG website. The originals will be sent to the the University of Nevada, Reno, Special Collections for proper preservation and storage in a climate controlled environment with a proper fire suppression system. The staff level noted in question 20 is for all of the NBMG collections.
