Summary

Fisheries managers and researchers working on local, state, and regional projects routinely gather large quantities of fisheries data. Data collected as part of these projects are often made available to the public via specialized web interfaces specific to the project. This approach serves the immediate need to make the data publically available; however, the visibility and thus long term viability of these datasets can be improved by taking a longer term and larger scale view. Purpose

The goal of the National Fisheries Data Infrastructure is to create an expandable query framework which will bring together local and regional fisheries information systems. This framework will provide fisheries managers, decision-makers, and NFHAP partners, with a first-ever view of fish presence on a national level.
