Geospatial data on ecological functions and flood-related risks to people on major river floodplains in the Puget Sound basin, Washington

Summary

Ecological functions and flood-related risks to people on major river floodplains in the Puget Sound basin, Washington were assessed using publicly available geospatial data. A full description of the assessment can be found in: Konrad, C.P., 2015, Geospatial assessment of ecological functions and flood-related risks on floodplains along major rivers in the Puget Sound Basin, US Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2015-5033, http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sir20155033. The assessment products, which are available here as ArcGIS grids and shape files, are primarily categorical where categories represent possible differences in ecological functions and risks to people on floodplains based on land cover and connectivity to rivers. Purpose

Floodplains are both ecologically and culturally significant in the Puget Sound basin, Washington. These data can be used in a geographic information system to inform floodplain management about opportunities to protect and recover ecological functions and to reduce flood-related risks to people. These data are not intended to be used for site-specific evaluation or project design.
