Pacific Island Agroforesty Adaptation Initiative (PIAAI), a partnership between the Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC) and College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (CTAHR-UHM), currently focused on the Territories of Guam and American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Climate change will be felt throughout the Pacific Islands through the visible impacts and intangible effects on diet and cultural heritage. The Pacific Islands Agroforestry Adaptation Initiative is intended to develop climate science literacy within the Cooperative Extension Service (CES) of the Pacific Island Land Grant Institutes in order to identify and promote locally relevant climate change education and adaptation opportunities within the agricultural sectors of the US-affiliated islands of American Sāmoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The goal of this overarching Adaptation Initiative is to identify and improve the capacity of local agroecosystems to sustain food security and cultural ecosystem services under a changing climate.
