ABSTRACT: The Cascadia Adaptation Strategy, lead by the Cascadia Partner Forum, is a regional scale effort to shareinformation, regional spatial priorities, tools to explore future options, resources, and communications that help natural resource managers in the region implement actions to help the natural systems in Cascadia adapt to climatic changes.
The Strategy will include:
1. A shared regional vision for a resilient Cascadia, below.
2. A regional spatial tool, a prototype of which is currently under development.
3. An accessible inventory of the existing resources to inform actions today, available online.
4. Scenarios that help visualize options for addressing issues of regional importance.
5. Stories and communication resources that engage, inspire, and connect the human communities of
Cascadia to the natural systems that support them.
To support the strategy, the US Fish and Wildlife Service funded facilitator to support ecoregional planning in the Cascadia region of Washington in coordination with partners in British Columbia by the Cascadia Partner Forum (https://cascadiapartnerforum.org/). The facilitator will organize and facilitate 4 stakeholder meetings of natural resource practitioners and decision makers throughout the Cascadia region to identify their management needs, considerations for integration into ongoing planning efforts, common set of 4 conservation targets, and priority datasets to build into a process for a shared regional Landscape Conservation Design strategy including the development of a dynamic new spatial tool to inform regional planning. Direction and support will be provided by the leadership team of the Cascadia Partner Forum to develop contact lists, provide input on agenda and meeting outcomes, and in other details.
