Cleveland, D.M., 2021, Elements in Kemp's ridley turtle egg contents collected from failed eggs laid by radio-tagged females along the Texas Gulf coast in 2010-2013: U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9GJFCQG.

Summary

These data are comprised of measurements of elements (i.e., aluminum, iron, vanadium, chromium, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, cadmium, tin, antimony, barium, thallium, lead, mercury, sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, manganese, and strontium) in Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) egg contents. The eggs were collected along the Texas Gulf coast in 2010-2013; only eggs that failed to hatch were retained for analyses. All results are provided on a dry-weight basis in units of mg/kg.

Purpose

These data are the first instance of elemental concentrations in Kemp's ridley sea turtle eggs. The measurements were intended to evaluate whether maternal foraging grounds impacted the elemental fingerprint in the eggs, and will be used by resource managers for sea turtle conservation efforts. Data are provided uncensored, and users should become thoroughly familiar with the information provided in the Supplemental Information section of this metadata prior to data use.
