This story map depicts the initial point of the Gila and Salt River meridian in Arizona. There are two georeferenced plats along with a description of the significance. The Gila and Salt River initial point was set in 1851 by John R. Bartlett, originally to mark the boundary of the United States and Mexico under the treaty with Mexico of Guadalupe Hidalgo at the junction of the Gila and Salt Rivers. It was re-monumented in 1984 and again in 2006.
