Summary
This data release provides suspended-sediment (concentration and load) and water temperature data for two locations along the Suiattle River (USGS 12187900 and 12188380) and a tributary, Downey Creek (USGS 12187985) in Washington State for partial periods over 2013-2017. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected over two summer seasons from May through September 2016 and 2017 at USGS 12187900. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected that approximately covers the Water Year 2017, extending from October 24, 2016 to November 16, 2017 at USGS 12187985. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected from December 2013 through September 2017 at USGS 12188380. This updated version includes three changes. The first change regards the secondary surrogate (streamflow or Q) regression equation for USGS 12187900. The Q relationship at this site was split into two seasons to capture the glacier input of suspended-sediment. The updated suspended-sediment concentration (SSC), both total and fines, versus discharge regression into two seasons at USGS 12187900 only. Early season is defined as prior to August 1 and late season is defined as on and after August 1. This represents the transition of the sediment source from snowmelt to glacial melt. The early season regression predicts less suspended-sediment concentration (both total and fines) than the late season regression at a given river discharge. The relationship is much improved when splitting into two seasons, which is defined in this dataset on a specific date (August 1), however shifts in the SSC-Q relationship over a period of days or weeks. The second change in this updated version includes a change to the turbidity (primary) regression equations for USGS 12187900. The primary change is the addition of calibrated pump samples, during periods where the turbidity was greater than 20 FNU, to the input of the regressions. When all pump samples were included, the regression skewed the predicted SSC values significantly lower than observed. In order to fit the upper end of this regression more representatively the pump samples during periods less than 20 FNU were omitted. The change in the adjusted R-squared values improved from 0.77 to 0.92 for total SSC and 0.75 to 0.96 for SSC fines. The third change includes updates to daily suspended-sediment loads for USGS 12188380 during the period between 10/1/2016 to 10/12/2016 due to suspect Q data used to compute the daily sediment loads. The daily Q values for these days have since been updated on USGS's National Water Information System and daily suspended-sediment loads during that period have subsequently been updated here.

Purpose
These data were collected to support a larger project of understanding the relative contributions of suspended sediment from unglaciated and glaciated headwaters of the Suiattle River, Washington.
