The National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) is a science center of the United States Geological Survey. The NWHC was established in 1975 as a biomedical laboratory dedicated to assessing the impact of disease on wildlife and to identifying the role of various pathogens in contributing to wildlife losses.

This item contains training materials for using the ScienceBase Footprinting Tool to add polygons to USGS pulications' metadata in the USGS Publications Warehouse. These training materials were developed as part of the 2014-2015 Community for Data Integration project titled "Geographic Searches for USGS Publications."
The purpose of this project is to improve the USGS Publications Warehouse (Pubs Warehouse) so that a person can search for USGS publications by geographic region in addition to existing search criteria; for example, one could search using map zooms or congressional districts. The addition of geographic searches allows users to narrow their search results to specific areas of interest, which reduces the time required to sift through all results outside the area of interest.
