These data are a compilation of fishway structures collected by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission state representatives at the request of the U.S. Geological Survey. The variables included within this dataset range from locality information and structure metadata (eg. latitude/longitude and year of construction) to metrics specifically about the fishway structure (eg. fishway width). The dataset ranges in dates of construction from 1882 to 2020 and includes fishways from all states on the eastern coast of the United States. Requests were sent to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission state representatives to collect fishway data from the areas within their responsibility. The state representatives...
This data release is a summarization within the USGS Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System (SHEDS) framework of the Oregon State University PRISM Climate Group 30-year normal 800 meter resolution monthly, minimum and maximum temperature data and monthly precipitation data between 1991 and 2020. The output is a table consisting of the summarized values of these continuous variables for each local SHEDS catchment within the SHEDS Hydro-Region 2 along with a table of these variables individually processed through an upstream accumulation method for each catchment in SHEDS Region 2. This upstream accumulation method takes the local and upstream catchment values for a particular catchment, individually weighs them...

This database contains aquatic benthic macroinvertebrate abundance data derived from samples collected from 33 75-meter stream site locations within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area in September of 2006. The database contains two separate table files (i.e., entities) in csv format: 1) Macroinvertebrate site abundance data and 2) site location data. For macroinvertebrate data, six samples were collected within 2-3 riffle areas within each site location with Portable Invertebrate Box Samplers (0.1-m2 sample area, 350 micron mesh collecting nets). Where possible, organisms were identified to the genus taxonomic level using a stereoscope except for organisms of the family Chironomidae and class Oliogochaeta,...

In lieu of a uniform mapping of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park corridor at very high-resolution using UAS, this study developed a multi-scale workflow, where (1) geospatial modeling methods and (2) historic image analysis were used to constrain the areal extent of (3) detailed field and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) observation. Geospatial Modeling Methods: Harperella habitat characteristics reported by literature sources and corroborated by extremely limited harperella occurrence data (in the form of GPS locations), were compiled into a geospatial prediction model (GPM) to characterize the extent of harperella habitat for the region between Sideling Hill Wildlife Management Area and Harper’s...

These tabular data are the summarization of land use/land cover related variables within the Chesapeake Bay watershed using the xstrm methodology bringing these data to the 1:24,000 scale. Variables being counted as land use/land cover related include all land use and land cover data. This also contains datasets that are split off or combined from source data (eg. agriculture or impervious only datasets combined from agriculture or impervious land use/land cover classes). Outputs consist of tabular comma-separated values files (CSVs), and parquet formatted files for both the local catchment and network summaries linked to the National Hydrography Dataset Plus High-Resolution (NHDPlus HR) framework by NHDPlus ID....

Water-penetrating LiDAR technology was used to remotely sense bathymetric elevation data as part of a spatial data acquisition on the Potomac River. In support of this effort, a bathymetric survey with a boat-mounted acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) was conducted in the study area on October 21-24, 2019. Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS) were used to concurrently collect survey grade real-time kinematic (RTK) horizontal and vertical coordinates of the ADCP transducer face. The riverbed elevations were collected using the ADCP with WinRiverII to export for post-processing in Microsoft Excel and ArcMap. The GNSS equipment was programmed to continuously collect an observation every second and the...

This dataset includes topographic elevations (in meters) surrounding and bathymetric elevations within the upper Delaware River (USA). Bathymetric lidar data was acquired using the Experimental Advanced Airborne Research Lidar, version B. The EAARL-B is a successor instrument to the original EAARL bathymetric LiDAR sensor developed for mapping coral reef environments in clear water, but subsequently used in river mapping. Both the original EAARL and the EAARL-B are small footprint, full waveform digitizing, green wavelength (532nm) airborne laser scanners, capable of acquiring laser returns from submerged as well as subaerial topography. Improvements from the original sensor include increased sample density, increased...

This is a data set composed of field survey of aquatic vegetation in the Delaware Water Gap and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational Area National Parks. Data were compiled by field sampling with GPS coordinates and underwater imaging and bathymetry. Data were compiled by teams composed of personnel from the National Park Service, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. The data were used as training and ground truth for remote sensing image analysis of hyperspectral collected by the Civil Air Patrol with the Airborne Real-time Cueing Hyperspectral Enhanced Reconnaissance, also known by the acronym ARCHER. Archer is an aerial imaging system that produces ground images far more...

The USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) is managing the acquisition of lidar data across the Nation for high resolution mapping of the land surface, useful for multiple applications. Lidar data is initially collected as 3-dimensional “point clouds” that map the interaction of the airborne laser with earth surface features, including vegetation, buildings, and ground features. Generally the product of interest has been high resolution digital elevation models generated by filtering the point cloud for laser returns that come from the ground surface and removing returns from vegetation, buildings, powerlines, and other above ground features. However, there is a wealth of information in the full point cloud on vegetation...

This data represents environmental attributes collected at or around field sample locations (groundwater piezometers or water wells) that were used in a study of impacts from a historic railroad embankment on wetland vegetation. GPS surveys were used to map piezometer locations, elevations, and the elevation of the ground surface in proximity to the piezometer. Water surface elevations and peat depths were measured in the field at the piezometers. Piezometer locations were also used to center a 20m x 20m vegetation survey field plot from which attributes on mean surface elevations and vegetation heights were summarized using lidar data.

The USGS Hurricane Sandy Science Plan, completed in December 2012, describes continuing USGS activities with other agencies and guides continued data collection and analysis to ensure support for recovery and restoration efforts. The activities outlined in the plan are organized in five themes based on impact types and information needs. The data, information, and tools that are produced will further characterize impacts and changes, guide mitigation and restoration of impacted communities and ecosystems, inform a redevelopment strategy aimed at developing resilient coastal communities and ecosystems, improve preparedness and responsiveness to the next hurricane or similar coastal disaster, and enable improved hazard...
