This data release documents proposed updates to geologic inputs (faults) for the upcoming 2023 National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM). This version (1.0) conveys differences between 2014 NSHM fault sources and those recently released in the earthquake geology inputs for the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) 2023, version 1.0 data release by Hatem et al. (2021). A notable difference between the 2014 and 2023 datasets is that slip rates are provided at points for 2023 instead of generalized along the entire fault section length as in 2014; consequently, slip rates are not provided for fault sections in the draft 2023 dataset. Geospatial data (shapefile, kml and geojson) are provided in this data release with...

Summary: This directory contains a second version of the mosaics of the 2-dimensional (2D) surface strain fields of the 2019 Mw7.1 and Mw6.4 Ridgecrest earthquakes derived from optical correlation. These results are derived through a modification to the inversion approach described in Barnhart et al. 2020 (Nature Geoscience) wherein we remove the UTM reference frame when building the Green’s function that is incorporated into the inversion for the displacement gradient tensor. The removal of the reference frame has the effect of improving the condition number of the Green’s function and making the inversion more stable. The mosaics are in UTM Zone 11N coordinates with 10m spatial resolution. Each file is in units...
This data release contains field data for two P-wave seismic reflection profiles acquired across the Warm Springs Valley fault zone, part of the Northern Walker Lane, NV. The dataset consists of high-resolution seismic reflection field records in .segy format, shot coordinates in .csv format, and observers’ logs in .pdf format. The high-resolution seismic profiles are approximately 4 km long. The northern profile (Warm Springs Line 1) is oblique to a prominent fault bounded ridge. The southern profile (Warm Springs Line 2) crosses the northern end of Warm Springs Valley and is nearly co-located with COCORP profile NV-08. To obtain the seismic profiles, we used a 230 kg accelerated weight drop source and a nominal...

This dataset contains catchment-averaged metrics of hypsometry and normalized channel steepness for selected catchments along the Powell River region in the Eastern Tennessee seismic zone. These data are associated with Table S1 in the Supplementary Material for the related manuscript: Thompson Jobe, J. A., R. W. Briggs, R. D. Gold, L. Bauer, and C. Collett (in review), Limited evidence of Late Pleistocene tectonic surface deformation in the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone, Tennessee, USA.

We generated digital elevation models (DEMs) using pre- and post-event in-track stereo 0.5 m resolution panchromatic Worldview 1 and 2 images (©2019, DigitalGlobe) using the Surface Extraction from TIN-based Searchspace Minimization (SETSM) software [Noh and Howat, 2015] running on the University of Iowa Argon supercomputer (Table S1). The post-event DEMs exhibit along-track striping artifacts common to the Worldview 2 sensor. While de-striping tools, for example within NASAs Ames Stereo Pipeline [Shean et al., 2016], are commonly applied to resolve this issue, a de-striping correction has not been developed for this latitude. Noh, M.-J., and I. M. Howat (2015), Automated stereo-photogrammetric DEM generation...
This Data Release provides the compilation of offset measurement datasets and associated fault data to accompany the manuscript “Climatic influence on the expression of strike-slip faulting” by Reitman et al. In addition to a ReadMe file, it includes two tabular datasets, one code, and one text file. The datasets are a compilation of offset measurement data (“data_multiple_eq_offsets.xlsx”) from 31 studies of strike-slip faults with multiple earthquakes, and the associated fault data (“fault_data" provided in csv and xlsx formats) with inputs necessary to do the analysis described in the accompanying manuscript. The code (“code_multiple_eq_offsets.ipynb”) reads the offset measurement data from each sheet of “data_multiple_eq_offsets.xlsx”...

This Data Release contains three related databases for the Central and Eastern United States: 1) A fault sections database (“NSHM2023_FaultSections_CEUS_v1”), which depicts the geometry of faults capable of hosting independent earthquakes, 2) A fault zone polygon database ("NSHM2023_FaultPolygons_CEUS_v1"), which depicts the geometry of distributed fault zones capable of hosting repeated large magnitude events but a specific fault source remains unidentified, and 3) An earthquake geology site information database (“NSHM2023_EQGeoDB_CEUS_v1”), which contains fault slip-rate and earthquake recurrence constraints at points. These databases were prepared in anticipation of updates to the National Seismic Hazard Model...
We present high-resolution (10-cm pixel) digital surface models (DSMs) generated for the northern 16 km of the surface rupture associated with the 1983 Mw 6.9 Borah Peak earthquake. These DSMs were generated using Agisoft Photoscan (and Metashape) image-based modeling software and low-altitude aerial photographs acquired from unmanned aircraft systems and a tethered balloon. DSM files consist of GeoTIFFs with georeferencing information stored in the file headers.
The New Madrid Seismic Zone presents significant seismic hazard to the central and eastern United States. We mapped newly-identified coseismic ridge-spreading features, or sackungen, in the bluffs east of the Mississippi River in western Tennessee. We use this mapping dataset in an accompanying manuscript to show that sackungen form during earthquakes on the Reelfoot fault and may fail in preferred orientations. Ultimately, these data can be used to infer fault source and mechanism and improve the paleoseismic record used in hazard models.
This data release contains machine-readable files accompanying the study “Quaternary Reelfoot fault deformation in the Obion River valley, Tennessee, USA" published by Delano et al. (2021) in Tectonics. The data release includes grain size analyses from three auger sites (TableS1_WilsonLoop_grainsize.txt, TableS2_Lanesferry_grainsize.txt, TableS3_BiggsFarm_grainsize.txt) and unit descriptions from three auger sites and a modern analog (TableS4_modern_floodplain_unit_desc.csv, TableS5_Wilson_Loop_unit_desc.csv, TableS6_Lanesferry_Road_unit_desc.csv, TableS7_Biggs_Farm_unit_desc.csv). A readme file (readme.txt) provides details for each file. Delano, J.E., Briggs, R.W., Thompson Jobe, J., Gold, R.D., and Engelhart,...
