This is a database of the geologic map of Lassen Volcanic National Park (LVNP) and vicinity as described below: The geologic map of Lassen Volcanic National Park (LVNP) and vicinity encompasses 1,905 square kilometers at the south end of the Cascade Range in Shasta, Lassen, Tehama, and Plumas Counties, northeastern California. Most of the map area is underlain by middle to late Pleistocene volcanic rocks; Holocene, early Pleistocene, and late Pliocene volcanic rocks (<3.5 m.y.) are less common. The southernmost Cascade Range consists of a regional platform of basalt and basaltic andesite, with subordinate andesite and sparse dacite, erupted from small, relatively short-lived volcanoes. Nested within these regional...

High-resolution geophysical mapping of Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah and Arizona was conducted between October 8 and November 15, 2017, as part of a collaborative effort between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Bureau of Reclamation to provide high-quality data needed to reassess the area-capacity tables for the Lake Powell reservoir. Seismic data collected during this survey can help to define the rates of deposition within the San Juan and Colorado Rivers, which are the main inflows to Lake Powell. These new data are intended to improve water budget management decisions that affect the natural and recreational resources of the reservoir. Multibeam echosounder bathymetry and...

We evaluated changes in mangrove distribution and ecosystem properties in the southeastern United States under climate change using known climate-ecological relationships, recent climate data for the period 1981-2010, and future projected climate data for the period 2071-2100 under two Shared Socio-economic Pathways (SSPs): the SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios, which correspond to intermediate and high greenhouse gas emissions scenarios, respectively. We quantified potential mangrove presence, mangrove relative abundance, coastal wetland vegetation height, and coastal wetland vegetation aboveground biomass under recent climatic conditions and under the two alternative future climate scenarios.

Lidar-derived digital elevation models often contain a vertical bias due to vegetation. In areas with tidal influence the amount of bias can be ecologically significant, for example, by decreasing the expected inundation frequency. We generated a corrected digital elevation model (DEM) for area surrounding the Martin National Wildlife Refuge in Chesapeake Bay using a modification of the Lidar Elevation Adjustment with NDVI (LEAN) technique (Buffington et al. 2016). GPS survey data (3699 points, collected across four tidal marsh sites in Chesapeake Bay (Eastern Neck, Martin, Bishops Head, and Blackwater) in 2010 and 2017. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) derived from an airborne multispectral image (2013)...

Raven point counts were related to landscape covariates using Bayesian hierarchical occupancy models and the mean of the predicted posterior distribution for raven occurrence was used to visualize results.

An index of anthropogenic influences on raven populations. Raven point counts were related to landscape covariates using Bayesian hierarchical occupancy models and the means of the posterior distributions for relevant effects were used to generate the predictions.

This habitat model was developed to identify suitable habitat for the federally-endangered least Bell’s vireo (Vireo bellii pusillus) across its current and historic range in California. The vireo disappeared from most of its range by the 1980s, remaining only in small populations in southern California. Habitat protection and management since the mid-1980s has led to an increase in southern California vireo populations with small numbers of birds recently expanding into the historic range. Predictions from this model will be used to focus surveys in the historic range to determine where vireos are recolonizing and to track the status and distribution of populations over time. We used the Partitioned Mahalanobis...
