Hourly carbon dioxide (CO2) measurements from four locations of snowpack profiles with vertical spacing of 20 cm over seven winters (2010-2016) at the Glacier Lakes Ecosystem Experiments Site (GLEES) in southern Wyoming. All supporting data on snowpack properties (mostly modeled) are included to calculate hourly snowpack CO2 fluxes from raw data. In addition, turbulence from the adjacent AmeriFlux eddy covariance scaffold are included for statistical analyses. For comparison purposes, manual CO2 measurements collected at the site from 1998-1999 and 2004-2010 are also included. In addition to data, all scripts are provided to calculate fluxes and determine statistical effects of year, replicate and turbulence on...

The ascii grids represent regional probabilities that groundwater in a particular location will have dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations less than selected threshold values representing anoxic groundwater conditions or will have dissolved manganese (Mn) concentrations greater than selected threshold values representing secondary drinking water-quality contaminant levels (SMCL) and health-based screening levels (HBSL) for water quality. The probability models were constrained by the alluvial boundary of the Central Valley to a depth of approximately 300 meters (m). We utilized prediction modeling methods, specifically boosted regression trees (BRT) with a Bernoulli error distribution within a statistical learning...

Well construction data for 11,917 domestic and 2,390 public-supply wells in the Central Valley were compiled as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment Project (NAWQA) and California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Priority Basin Project (GAMA-PBP). Data were compiled for wells reported in the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database and from well information reported to the SWRCB Department of Drinking Water (SWRCB-DDW). Driller’s log data were transcribed from scanned images of well completion reports filed with California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The wells reported in this data release...

In 2021 and 2022, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR), drilled and constructed well SEP 16 (431900112593601) approximately 6 miles south-southeast of Big Southern Butte in Butte County, Idaho. The purpose of the well installation was to collect geologic, geophysical, and hydrologic data. On July 13, 2022, the USGS Idaho National Laboratory Project Office (INLPO) collected select geophysical logs within the cased well including natural gamma, neutron, neutron porosity, and gamma-gamma dual density logs. Gyroscopic deviation data were also collected during geophysical surveying to account for the horizontal and vertical displacement of the well. On...

We performed hourly monitoring of conditions at the Two Towers landslide located in northern California near the town of Zenia. Monitored conditions included rainfall, groundwater head, horizontal total stress, horizontal effective stress, vertical soil deformation, and subsurface displacement. Data were acquired November 11, 2014–July 22, 2017, except for times during which power failure occurred; data for these times are given as “NAN” (not a number). Rainfall data are provided in millimeters during the past hour (mm/hr). Groundwater heads are provided in meters (m) above the landslide base. Horizontal stresses are provided in kilopascals (kPa). Vertical soil deformation data are provided in terms of length (centimeters,...

The Red River of the North (Red River) transports phosphorus from North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota, to Manitoba, Canada, and eventually into Lake Winnipeg. Phosphorus load (or flux) is the amount of total phosphorus (TP) transported by the Red River. The effect of TP load on water quality is a concern, especially with respect to downstream eutrophication issues in Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. There is interest at the State and International level to reduce TP flux – an expensive proposition, depending on the method (controlling sources, settling ponds, buffer strips, changes in land use) that is not always effective during spring runoff. The purpose of the study for which these data were developed...

From 2013 to 2015, bathymetric surveys of New York City’s six West of Hudson reservoirs (Ashokan, Cannonsville, Neversink, Pepacton, Rondout, and Schoharie) were performed to provide updated capacity tables and bathymetric maps. Depths were surveyed with a single-beam echo sounder and real-time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) along planned transects at predetermined intervals for each reservoir. A separate set of echo sounder data was collected along transects at oblique angles to the main transects for accuracy assessment. Field survey data was combined with water-surface elevations in a geographic information system to create three-dimensional surfaces representing reservoir-bed elevations in the...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected field spectra collected from the Niobrara River in Nebraska August 15–18, 2016, to support research on remote sensing of river discharge. Reflectance measurements were made by wading the Niobrara River near Norden Notch using an Analytical Spectral Devices FieldSpec3 spectroradiometer operated in reflectance mode. The original *.asd files are provided in this data release.

The USGS Lake Erie Biological Station’s East Harbor sampling program began in 1961 with the commissioning of the research vessel Musky II. It is the longest known continuous trawl survey in Lake Erie. In addition to spanning over 50 years, the data series is unique for three prominent design elements: 1) sampling was conducted at three depth strata; 2) replicate trawl samples were collected at each depth stratum; and 3) sampling was conducted during both day and night. Unlike other trawl series collected in Lake Erie, and throughout the Great Lakes, the East Harbor program is the only one to combine these sampling practices in a single survey. In 2012, the original vessel used since the inception of the East Harbor...

Coastal wetlands significantly contribute to global carbon storage potential. Sea-level rise and other climate change-induced disturbances threaten coastal wetland sustainability and carbon storage capacity. It is critical that we understand the mechanisms controlling wetland carbon loss so that we can predict and manage these resources in anticipation of climate change.

This dataset contains concentrations of 25 organochlorine pesticides, 6 industrial or personal care products, 6 polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardant congeners, and 15 polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners in brain, muscle, gonad, and liver tissues of white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus). All concentrations are reported on a wet-weight basis. Fish samples were collected from the Columbia River directly adjacent to and immediately downstream from the Hanford Site in Washington State. The site was used as a weapons-grade plutonium plant from 1944 to 1987, at which time liquid effluents were discharged directly into the Columbia River. Contaminants from past and present waste leaks from the Hanford...
