Data describe results of a set of laboratory experiments using a previously described quantitative thiaminase I activity assay to test the thiaminase activity of whole zebrafish homogenates. Parameters described include the thiaminase activity data, dilution factors, incubation time, and tissue weight assayed. Experiments were conducted at the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center, Columbia, MO in 2006.
This collection of metadata is harvested from the CSAS Metadata Clearinghouse, which serves as an aggregator for metadata from across many USGS science centers.

This dataset represents a modeling effort intended to explore the impacts of oiling on migratory birds. The purpose of this model is to provide a first principles approach to predict potential biological impacts of altered energetics dynamics in north American migratory birds due to oiling of feathers. This data includes predicted theoretical impacts on migration timing, wintering latitude, starvation rates, and increased food uptake. This data was generated through model implementation in R (R Core Team 2020; Version 4.0.4).
Mission The mission of the River Studies Branch is to develop interdisciplinary science to inform river management and restoration. The River Studies Branch carries out basic and applied research in support of ecosystem-level management and restoration of large rivers, streams, flood-plain wetlands, and aquatic resources by providing scientific understanding of riverine ecology, habitat dynamics, and effects of human-induced disturbances. Problems Addressed Most rivers in the world have been substantially altered from their natural state by multiple stressors including dams, water use, channelization, land use changes, and chemical pollution. Society has recognized that these alterations have resulted in diminished...

Concentrations of a wide variety of environmental organic contaminants were measured in surface waters of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area (Nevada and Arizona) in 2010 to provide a measure of exposure to resident fish species. These contaminants were sampled using the semipermeable membrane device (SPMD) and the polar organic chemical integrative sampler (POCIS) which allow for the determination of the average contaminant concentrations over a month-long study period. Contaminants measured included polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, organochlorine pesticides, pharmaceuticals, select illicit drugs, and other chemicals related to wastewater treatment plant effluents. In addition, sediments,...

Dataset consists of morphometric measurements from unionid Pondmussel (Ligumia subrostrata) and concentrations of four per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water and freshwater mussels collected from a 14-day accumulation and 7-day elimination study. The accumulation of four per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were measured. Samples (4 replicates) were collected at 0, 4, 12, 48, 96, 168, and 336 hours during the uptake phase of the exposure. Samples (4 replicates) were collected at time point 348, 360, 408, and 504 hours during the elimination phase of the exposure. Note the time points are sequential with the uptake portion of the study followed by the elimination portion of the study.
