Geographic Focus Areas (GFAs) used for Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV) species and habitat planning and reporting. These boundaries are based entirely or in part on the U.S. Environmental Protect Agency’s Level 4 Ecoregions, U.S. Department of Agriculture - Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Major Land Resource Areas, or Nebraska Game and Parks Commision’s Biologically Unique Landscapes. This revision of RWBJV GFAs replaces a previous version used in the RWBJV’s Impementation Plan (2013).

Priority and use segments for waterfowl (ducks and geese). Segments designated as use areas were utilized during annual spring surveys 2014-2016. The reduced model for ducks indicated a relationship between total area of grass habitats, open water, crops, and wetlands, as well as mean distance to roads.

This layer represents the mile markers along the major road network of the U.S. Northern Rockies. It was created by merging Montana Department of Transportation "on-system" routes with Idaho Transportation Department "state highway system" routes, creating consistent attribute fields, then clipping to the U.S. Northern Rockies study area boundary.

These map products of the North American Land Change Monitoring System (NALCMS) are a collaborative initiative between Canada, Mexico, and the United States to monitor land cover - the observed physical cover on the surface of the Earth - and its change over time. These maps represents land cover in 2005, 2010, and land cover change from 2005-2010 based on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite imagery monthly composites at 250 m spatial resolution. Nineteen land cover classes were defined using the Land Cover Classification System (LCCS) standard developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of United Nations. The NALCMS was developed to depict information about land cover and...

NatureServe ecologists lead efforts to develop internationally standardized classifications for terrestrial ecosystems and vegetation. One classification approach is terrestrial ecological systems, mid- to local- scale ecological units useful for standardized mapping and conservation assessments of habitat diversity and landscape conditions. Each ecological system type describes complexes of plant communities influenced by similar physical environments and dynamic ecological processes (like fire or flooding). The classification defines some 800 units across the United States and has provided an effective means of mapping ecological concepts at regional/national scales in greater detail than was previously possible....

This indicator measures the protected status or potential stress (i.e., shipping traffic, dredge disposal) of solid substrate and rocky outcroppings.Reason for SelectionHardbottom extent and condition is particularly important for a variety of marine species. Hardbottom provides an anchor for important seafloor habitat such as deepwater corals, plants, and sponges, supporting associated invertebrate and fish species. It is impacted by landscape scale stressors (e.g., water quality degradation, mining, dredging, and beach renourishment), can be monitored and modeled with existing information, and is widely used and understood by diverse partners.Input Data– The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) South Atlantic Bight Marine...

Carnivore carcasses recorded by Montana Department of Transportation, Idaho Department of Fish & Game, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service were aggregated to the nearest mile marker for major roads of the U.S. Northern Rockies. Note that wildlife carcass collection and reporting protocols and frequency differ between states and among maintenance sections within states. Carcass presence should therefore be used only to explore general patterns and not for statistical inference.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center has developed the Landscape Dynamics Assessment Tool (LanDAT) to help natural resource conservation practitioners monitor and assess impacts on changing landscapes and the ecological services and benefits they provide to people. LanDAT features a web-based map viewer that includes an annually-updated set of spatial data products as well as a website that provides a comprehensive overview of the tool and case studies of forest threats and their impacts to specific natural resources. LanDAT summarizes with clarity the fusion of three components: 1) a massive data set derived from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer...

The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Protection Opportunity action map for the Grasslands habitat system ranks pixels (250-m) based primarily on the Grasslands Condition Index such that unprotected sites within healthy landscapes are ranked higher than those in very fragmented landscapes. Ranks are increased by information on existing partner interest (i.e. stated priority areas), elevated risk of change by 2060, and predicted occupancy of a majority of species identified in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Areas ranked as high restoration...

The Protection Opportunity action map for the Tidal Marsh habitat system ranks pixels (10-m) based primarily on the Tidal Marsh Condition Index such that unprotected sites within healthy landscapes are ranked higher than those in very fragmented landscapes. Ranks are increased by information on existing partner interest (i.e. stated priority areas), elevated risk of change by 2060, and predicted occupancy of a majority of species identified in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). The purpose of this data set is support resource allocation decisions (i.e. where to invest conservation effort) within the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The Condition Index ranks pixels (250-m) according to how well they meet the Desired State for the Upland Hardwoods (Forest) habitat system, which is described qualitatively and quantitatively in the GCPO LCC’s draft Integrated Science Agenda (v4). Higher values indicate sites closer to the Desired State. Value of 1 indicates areas appropriate for restoration but currently under an alternative land use (i.e. potential habitat). Please see PDF file in the Upland Hardwoods (Forest) folder in the Blueprint Gallery at https://gcpolcc.databasin.org/...

Despite the lack of surface flows, the Colorado River riparian corridor in Mexico has proven to be ecologically resilient. Floods in the 1980s and 90s in the region brought back large swaths of native riparian habitat, which still persist today in some areas along the river. Because the historic floodplain is extremely important for agricultural production and therefore the local economy, habitat maintenance must be integrated with continued utilization of lands and water for this purpose. The riparian, marsh, and open-water areas found in Reach 4 provide critical habitat for both migratory and resident riparian bird species. Due to its ecological importance, the riparian corridor and Reach 4 in particular have been...

Description of condition index value scores for estuarine tidal marsh along and within 10 km of the GCPO LCC Gulf Coast subgeography. A series of raster calculations were used in a dichotomous decision-based framework to compile a per-pixel draft condition index value at a 10 m resolution for GCPO estuarine tidal marsh based on the number of configuration and condition endpoints met within each marsh pixel. Pixels not identified as a estuarine marsh but that were identified as having the potential to be marsh were given a score of 1, provided the pixels were not classified as developed. Potential estuarine tidal marsh pixels were derived from a combination of potential estuarine tidal marsh classes in the Landfire...

The model for golden-winged warbler was acquired from Dolly Crawford (Ashland University), which was included in Chapter 3 of the 2012 conservation plan (Roth et al., 2012). Model was composed of cells of predicted Golden-Winged Warbler occurrence across the study region. The study region was determined by the expert opinion derived by the technical team regarding the core breeding populations of Golden-Winged Warbler presence and assigned to the Great Lakes Conservation Region and Appalachian Conservation Region. Within these areas, certain extents are recommended for Golden-Winged Warbler conservation, as they are priority species in those regions and do not promote the invasion of Blue-Winged Warbler, a known...

This data layer defines Pacific Southwest Region endangered species office leads for species consultations and support. This data was defined based on an internal 2014 US Fish and Wildlife Serviceas inter-office Memorandums of Understanding. This boundary generally reflects which individual offices will have jurisdiction for endangered species consultations and support.
