The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management launched the Shoreline Change Project in 1989 to identify erosion-prone areas of the coast and support local land-use decisions. Trends of shoreline position over long and short-term timescales provide information to landowners, managers, and potential buyers about possible future impacts to coastal resources and infrastructure. In 2001, a 1994 shoreline was added to calculate both long- and short-term shoreline change rates along ocean-facing sections of the Massachusetts coast. In 2013 two oceanfront shorelines for Massachusetts were added using 2008-2009 color aerial orthoimagery and 2007 topographic lidar datasets obtained from NOAA's Ocean Service, Coastal...

Field measurements of riverbed grain size were collected from the Merced and Tuolumne Rivers in California to support research on anadromous salmonids. The grain size estimates included in this dataset were obtained from plan-view digital images of grains on exposed gravel and cobble bars (n = 109 for the Merced, n = 26 for the Tuolumne). The images were used to estimate grain-size distributions using the algorithm of Buscombe (2013). In this dataset we report the median grain size (D50), the 16th percentile (D16) and 84th percentile (D84). The spatial location of each measurement was obtained via a Trimble R10 RTK GPS receiver. The map projection and datum for these data from the Merced River are UTM Zone 11 N...
Borehole geophysical logs were collected to characterize bedrock aquifers at three contamination sites located in California, Wisconsin, and New Jersey. The data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the University of Guelph from 2014 to 2015 as part of the U.S. Department of Defense Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) initiatives to apply geophysical methods at fractured-rock sites contaminated with chlorinated solvents. Logs were collected in open boreholes completed in fractured rock. Each borehole was logged with natural gamma, electromagnetic induction, normal resistivity, single-point resistance,...

This child item dataset contains 22,871 records of chloride concentration in groundwater across Kings, Queens, and Nassau Counties in Long Island, New York. Compiled records span the period from 1889 to 2022. Records are provided in a shapefile of point data compiled from several sources detailed in the metadata. Chloride isolines (isochlors) are also included as a shapefile of interpolated point data representing average conditions over 11 twenty-year time periods in the two main Long Island aquifer complexes (Upper glacial-Jameco-Magothy and North Shore-Lloyd). Interpolation methods are discussed in Stumm and others (2024). These data are accessible as an online webmap: https://ny.water.usgs.gov/maps/lisustainabilityphase1viewer/

Within the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), three-dimensional (3D) geologic models are created as part of geologic framework studies, to support energy, minerals, or water resource assessments, and to inform geologic hazard assessments. Such models are often used within the organization as digital input into process and predictive models. 3D geological modeling typically supports research and project work within a specific part of the USGS – called Mission Areas – and as a result, 3D modeling activities are decentralized and model results are released on a project-by-project basis. This digital data release inventories and catalogs, for the first time, 3D geological models constructed by the USGS across all Mission...
