A cells polygon feature class was created by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) to illustrate the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in the State of Indiana. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown or dry. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying proprietary well data. No proprietary data are displayed or included in the cell maps. The data are current as of 2006.

The data provides the approximate limit of Middle Jurassic salt from Plate 2, Principal structural features, Gulf of Mexico Basin (compiled by T.E. Ewing and R.F. Lopez) in Volume J, the Geology of North America (1991). This dataset contains basic data and interpretations developed and compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey's Framework Studies and Assessment of the Gulf Coast Project. Other major sources of data include publicly available information from state agencies as well as publications of the U.S. Geological Survey and other scientific organizations. In cases where company proprietary data were used to produce various derivatives such as contour surfaces, the source is cited but the data are not displayed.

This is a polygon coverage and shapefile that defines areas that are underlain by the Osiris Tuff and Wasatch Fm. (Tert.), Pine Hollow Fm. (Tert.?), Canaan Peak Fm. (Tert.? and Cret.), and the Kaiparowits and Wahweap Fms. (Cret). east of 112 degrees of longitude in the Kaiparowits Plateau, southern Utah. The northern boundary is delineated by the Paunsaugunt fault and volcanic rocks of Tertiary age.
Reporting polygons were created to display and quantify overburden material above the Mahogany Zone, by PLSS section, in the Piceance Basin, Colorado as part of a 2009 National Oil Shale Assessment.

This data set portrays the land ownership polygon features in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Colorado Plateau coal assessment study area (Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona). The data set was created by clipping a national land ownership coverage of federal land polygon features that had been extracted from the individual USGS 1:2,000,000-scale state boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files and then paneled into a single coverage. The original national coverage metadata document is included here and modified slightly to indicate that the geographic areal extent is that of portions of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.
