The genetic origin of many gold deposits, including Pogo in Alaska, remains controversial with questions as to whether they formed due to magmatic-hydrothermal or metamorphic-hydrothermal fluids. Gaining a better understanding of the formation mechanisms for these deposits is critical for defining proper exploration criteria in gold-bearing regions and production within these deposits. Monazite are light rare earth (LREE)-bearing and xenotime are heavy rare earth (HREE)-bearing phosphate minerals that are found as alteration products in many gold deposits. In addition to their importance in geochronological investigations, their minor element chemistry may be used to differentiate between metamorphic, magmatic,...
The contents of this data release represent the results of the noble gas composition analysis and are presented in support of the planned publication Gao et al., 2023, titled Lead and noble gas isotopic constraints on the origin of Te-bearing adularia-sericite epithermal Au-Ag deposits in a calc-alkaline magmatic arc. Tellurium (Te)-bearing adularia-sericite epithermal Au-Ag deposits are widely distributed in calc-alkaline magmatic arcs and are an important current and future source of precious and critical metals. However, the source of ore-forming fluids in these deposits remain unclear due to the lack of isotopic evidence on Au-, Ag-, and Te-bearing minerals. To advance understanding of the source of Te and precious...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains stream water chemistry and streamflow data collected in late August and early September, 2021 from 28 sites located throughout Colorado, USA. The sampled streams all drain high-elevation mountain watersheds in areas where the bedrock is hydrothermally altered and contains abundant sulfide minerals. Most sampled streams are therefore affected by natural acid-rock drainage. All sites had been sampled in prior years so that the 2021 data could be used to evaluate potential changes in stream water chemistry in recent decades. Streamflow was also quantified at most sites using data from a sodium chloride slug addition wherein specific conductivity readings were...

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analyses of apatite provide trace element concentrations that support indicator mineral studies near the Taurus porphyry Cu-Mo deposit in the eastern Tanacross quadrangle, Alaska. The Taurus deposit and others in the region are mostly concealed, and traditional stream sediment samples typically show subdued geochemical signatures. The indicator mineral studies include collection of stream sediment samples and analysis using automated SEM mineralogical techniques. The presence of select minerals in the stream sediments may indicate mineralization. In addition, the chemistry of specific minerals may be used to distinguish a hydrothermal origin...

Shallow soil characteristics were mapped near Shellmound, Mississippi, using the DualEM 421 electromagnetic sensor in October 2018. Data were acquired by towing the DualEM sensor on a wheeled cart behind an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), with the sensor at a height of 0.432 meters (m) above the ground surface. Approximately 175 line-kilometers of data were acquired over an area of nearly four square-kilometers, with 25 m separation between survey lines. Data were manually edited for noise sources such as powerlines or other buried structures and averaged to regular output soundings every 5 m along survey lines. The processed data were inverted to recover models of electrical resistivity structure as a function of depth...
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release is an assessment of aquatic habitat within the tributaries of the lower Middle Fork Salmon River. These datasets are primarily focused on physical stream habitat (2020-21 stream temperature data) and the presence or absence (2021 eDNA data) of fish that inhabit the basin. Many environmental stressors contribute to the declining range and density of Bull trout (S. confluentus) populations, one of which is the toxic trace metals contributions from legacy mine waste and adits. These data were collected in stream habitats with variable physical and thermal conditions. Characterizing and comparing reference streams of similar physical attributes will assist to differentiate...
