Abstract: A study was conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GCPO LCC) and the Department of the Interior Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center, to evaluate the hydrologic response of a daily time step hydrologic model to historical observations and projections of potential climate and land-cover change for the period 1952–2099. Abstract (from Ecology and Evolution): Understanding how different taxa respond to global warming is essential for predicting future changes and elaborating strategies to buffer them. Tardigrades are well known for their ability to survive environmental stressors, such as drying and freezing, by undergoing cryptobiosis and rapidly recovering their metabolic function after stressors cease. Determining the extent to which animals that undergo cryptobiosis are affected by environmental warming will help to understand the real magnitude climate change will have on these organisms. This project provided broader training for graduate students, university faculty and staff, and some partners on how decision analysis can be used to support natural and cultural resource management decisions. NC State graduate students and SE CSC staff were supported for travel to engage with natural resource managers on on-the-ground adaptation issues. Broader training in science communication was developed for students, staff, and CSC leadership. Graduate students and staff were supported for science communication training, and three regional CSCs were engaged to develop center communication plans.
