An extreme flood in 2016 caused widespread culvert blockages and road failures across northern Wisconsin, including extensive damage along steep tributaries and ravines in the Marengo River watershed. Along with the flooding, there were fluvial erosion hazards (FEH) associated with a large amount of erosion in headwater areas. Of special concern were FEHs associated with gullying, loss of wetland storage, and valley-side mass wasting. In 2020, a pilot study was begun to map and classify ephemeral and perennial streams and wetlands in terms of their susceptibility to fluvial erosion hazards. Locations of focused (or ‘preferential’) groundwater discharge to surface water are often hydrologically and ecologically important, yet our ability to predict the spatial distribution and water quality of preferential riverbank discharges is limited at the scale of river networks. To advance the understanding of the physical controls on riverbank groundwater discharge processes, discharge zones can be mapped efficiently using handheld and drone-based thermal infrared cameras. Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Digitized field boundaries were used to locate crops for in situ verification once in 2022; crop verification occurred on June 2nd. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program County Mosaic 2021 imagery for Arizona and supplemented with Landsat and Sentinel2 imagery collections accessed via the Sentinel Hub, Sentinel Playground (https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/sentinel-playground). This dataset contains the final water-level records (334) that met all threshold criteria and had an absolute residual (ABS_PSEUDO_LEV) of less than 20 feet. The threshold of 20 feet was selected based on water-level changes of the U.S. Geological Survey groundwater site 363551090152801 Qulin, in the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer. This final dataset is considered a best representation of the true water-levels in the aquifer.

On August 25, 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a bathymetry survey of a 550 meter long reach of the Black River near Great Bend, New York. The study reach began approximately 1,000 meters upstream from the State Route 26 bridge in Great Bend, New York. The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Tug Hill Commission, the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Tug Hill Land Trust studied the northern and central parts of the Tug Hill glacial aquifer to help communities make sound decisions about the groundwater resource. This USGS data release contains the regional potentiometric contours representing the regional potentiometric surface for Clark County, Nevada, 2009-2015. Contours represent the groundwater-level altitude with a 250-foot contour interval and were created from groundwater elevations from 58 wells and surface elevations from 5 springs.

On October 13, 2020 a survey of Upper Letts Lake was conducted where both bathymetric and terrestrial lidar data were collected. Additionally, six bed material samples and three core samples were collected to understand the characterization of the grain-size of the lake bed. Survey data were merged with an additional lidar dataset from the USGS 3DEP program to create digital elevation model (DEM). The DEM was used to update the stage-storage and stage-surface area tables for the reservoir. This vector geospatial dataset contains bounding polygons that visualize the domain of archived groundwater flow models published by the Upper Midwest Water Science Center and attributes pertaining to the associated publication (citation, year of publication, authors, report ID, publication URL), model construction details, and a URL for publicly available model archives when available or a directory pathway for internal model archives. The index currently depicts 115 groundwater model domains across Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin from publications dating back to 1985. Separately published groundwater transport models are not included in this dataset.

The data contained within include high-water marks collected at 50 sites throughout the regions of New Jersey affected by significant flooding from Hurricane Ida during September of 2021. Each site contains between one to six associated high-water marks that were documented, photographed, and surveyed to datum. The datum represented by the elevations of the high-water marks is the North American Vertical Datum of 1988. All data (excluding photographs) associated with the high-water marks are contained within the data release associated with these metadata, as well as the USGS Short Term Network Flood Event Viewer (STN-FEV, U.S. Geological Survey (2021a)). This data release contains data from five seismic-reflection surveys in New York’s East River between Governors Island and the Queensboro Bridge. Data are provided in the original proprietary data format, a SEGy data exchange format, and as a shape file of locations and depths to bedrock. Depths to bedrock were derived from the seismic signal travel time and an assumed speed of sound of 5,000 feet/second.
