In 2004, about 90 migrating elk drowned after attempting to cross thin ice on the Mores Creek arm of Lucky Peak Lake upstream of the Highway 21 bridge. To better understand the depths over a range of reservoir pool elevations in the Mores Creek Arm, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Lucky Peak Power Plant Project, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) bathymetric surveys on the Mores Creek arm on Lucky Peak Lake. The MBES data will assist reservoir managers and wildlife biologists with regulating reservoir water surface elevations (WSE) to support successful big game migration across Mores Creek on Lucky Peak Lake. Data collection provided nearly 100 percent coverage of bed elevations...

Understanding how sea-level rise will affect coastal landforms and the species and habitats they support is critical for crafting approaches that balance the needs of humans and native species. Given this increasing need to forecast sea-level rise effects on barrier islands in the near and long terms, we are developing Bayesian networks to evaluate and to forecast the cascading effects of sea-level rise on shoreline change, barrier island state, and piping plover habitat availability. We use publicly available data products, such as lidar, orthophotography, and geomorphic feature sets derived from those, to extract metrics of barrier island characteristics at consistent sampling distances. The metrics are then incorporated...

A digital dataset of analog simulation of water-level declines in the Sparta Sand, Mississippi Embayment in Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Mississippi was developed from J.E. Reed's "Analog simulation of water-level declines in the Sparta Sand, Mississippi Embayment" (1972). The plate was georeferenced to North American Datum 1983 and projected to USA Contiguous Albers Equal Conic (U.S. Geological Survey version) projection (standard parallels 29.5 and 45.5 degrees, central meridian -96 degrees, and latitude of origin 23 degrees). Once georeferenced (using ArcMap v 10.4.1), individual potentiometric contours were digitized manually. Figures included in the digital dataset are figures 2...
From May 2017 to November 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted bathymetric surveys of New York City's East of Hudson Reservoirs. Bathymetry data were collected at Bog Brook Reservoir during October 2017. Depth data were collected primarily with a multibeam echosounder. Quality assurance points were measured with a single-beam echosounder. Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) and static global navigation satellite system (GNSS) surveys and submersible pressure transducers. Measured sound velocity profiles were used to correct echosounder depth measurements for thermal stratification. Digital elevation models were created by combining the measured bathymetry data with lidar...
From May 2017 to November 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted bathymetric surveys of New York City's East of Hudson Reservoirs. Bathymetry data were collected at Cross River Reservoir During June 2018 and October 2019. Depth data were collected primarily with a multibeam echosounder; additional bathymetry points were measured using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). Quality assurance points were measured with a single-beam echosounder. Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) and static global navigation satellite system (GNSS) surveys and submersible pressure transducers. Text files: These data are text files of GNSS survey points collected along a trace of the West Napa Fault Zone near Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena, California. Data were collected to aid in paleoseismic investigation of the suspected fault strand and to characterize local geomorphology. Data were collected on March 31, and August 1, 2017 using a Leica Viva GS15 survey-grade GNSS receiver. The data are delivered as positions in the NAD83 UTM zone 10N coordinate system with orthometric heights according to Geoid 12B. LAZ files: These data are point clouds from terrestrial lidar data collected along a trace of the West Napa Fault Zone near Ehlers Lane north of St. Helena, California. This imagery dataset consists of 3-meter resolution, lidar-derived imagery of the Cumberland 30 x 60 minute quadrangle in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland. The source data used to construct this imagery consists of 1-meter lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). The lidar source data were compiled from different acquisitions published between 2019 and 2023. The data were processed using geographic information systems (GIS) software. The data is projected in WGS 1984. This representation illustrates the terrain as a hillshade with contrast adjusted to highlight local relief according to a topographic position index (TPI) calculation.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), prepared geographic information systems (GIS) layers for use in the West Virginia StreamStats application. The Digital Elevation Model and associated data were hydrologically conditioned, which is the process of burning in single line streams at the 1:24,000 scale into a digital elevation model to produce flow direction and flow accumulation grids. This data includes geotif images for a 10 meter digital elevation model, a flow direction, and a flow accumulation raster/grid image for the WV Streamstats area. The 34 HUCs represented by this dataset are 02070001, 02070002, 02070003, 02070004, 02070005, 02070006, 02070007, 05020001, 05020002,05020003, 05020004, 05020005, 05020006,...

This publication provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution magnetic survey over an area of the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The survey area lies approximately between the towns of Iron Mountain and Chatham. Data for this survey were collected by EON Geosciences under contract with the USGS using a fixed wing aircraft with a magnetometer mounted in the tail stinger. The survey operated out of the Sawyer International Airport near Marquette, Michigan, from June of 2018 to September of 2018. A total of 38,474 line km of data were collected. Data were collected along north-south flight lines spaced 150 meters apart with east-west tie lines flown every 1,500 meters. The nominal terrain clearance...

The USGS, in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, surveyed the bathymetry within an area of about 500 acres of American Falls Reservoir between River Miles 713 and 714 during the week of August 6-8, 2019. The bathymetric survey provided high resolution detail of a proposed treatment area for an aeration system that is being developed to support water quality during the American Falls spillway concrete repair project and possibly thereafter. The Water Quality Restoration Plan detailing this effort is an appendix of the of the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) in conjunction with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance process.

This child data release includes fused topo-bathymetric digital elevation models of the Merced and Tuolumne Rivers in California used to support research on anadromous salmonids. The purpose of this study was to calculate the capacity for reintroduction of salmonids above impassable barriers. Airborne, near-infrared (NIR) LiDAR and hyperspectral imagery were acquired simultaneously in September 2014 from a Cessna Caravan, with the LiDAR data used to map topography of dry land and the imagery used to map water depth in the wetted channel. Topo-bathymetric DEMs of channels and floodplains with 1-m resolution were constructed for the study reaches by using remotely sensed hyperspectral image data to estimate water...
