Little is known about the underlying mechanisms governing uranium (U) bioaccumulation in aquatic insects, especially the influence of surface adsorption on the measured U concentrations (Henry et al. 2020). U.S. Geological Survey scientists are conducting experiments to parameterize conditional rate constants for aqueous U uptake and to quantify desorption of weakly bound U from insect's integument. Henry, Brianna L., Marie-Noële Croteau, David M. Walters, Janet L. Miller, Daniel J. Cain, and Christopher C. Fuller. Uranium bioaccumulation dynamics in the mayfly Neocloeon triangulifer and application to site-specific prediction. Environmental Science & Technology 54, no. 18 (2020): 11313-11321.

This data release presents results from a laboratory study designed to measure the effect of temperature on denitrification rates in sediments collected from 5- to 30-cm depth below the lake bottom, at a location where groundwater discharges to the lake. Sediment cores were collected June 25, 2014 from the West site (Fishermans Cove) in Ashumet Pond, Cape Cod, MA then shipped to Boulder, CO for laboratory experiments. Groundwater used for these experiments was collected from a well just upgradient of the sediment collection site. Denitrification rates were determined on sediment plus groundwater slurries maintained under anaerobic conditions and employing the acetylene block method. Nitrous oxide concentrations...

Aboveground Biomass Data from Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. Plot data includes X and Y location, downed dead wood (DDW) count, mangrove species identification, and site descriptions. Species information was recorded for Bruguiera gymnorhiza, Sonneratia alba, Xylocarpus granatum, Lumnitzera littorea, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora lamarckii, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa and Ceriops tagal. Mangroves were inventoried for species identification, diameter at breast height (DBH), height, and dead status.

These metadata sets present the comprehensive geochemical composition of solid and water samples from the site of a 11.4ML (million liters) wastewater spill discovered in January, 2015. Analyses of a pipeline sample (analyses of select analytes), supplied by the North Dakota Department of Health are also included. The spill was near Blacktail Creek, north of Williston, ND. The leak was from a pipeline located approximately 70m from Blacktail Creek. The creek flows 17km before entering the Little Muddy River, a tributary to the Missouri River. The study included samples collected in waters upstream and downstream from Blacktail Creek in February and June 2015, June 2016, and June 2017. These data sets include field...
This page contains NetCDF files of the Spring Leaf and Bloom Indices spanning 1880-2013. These files were created and are maintained by the USA National Phenology Network (www.usanpn.org). The Extended Spring Indices are mathematical models that predict the "start of spring" (timing of leaf out or bloom for species active in early spring) at a particular location (Schwartz 1997, Schwartz et al. 2006, Schwartz et al. 2013). These models were constructed using historical observations of the timing of first leaf and first bloom in a cloned lilac cultivar (S. x chinensis 'Red Rothomagensis') and two cloned honeysuckle cultivars (Lonicera tatarica 'Arnold Red' and L. korolkowii 'Zabelii'). Primary inputs to the model...

This datafile consists of a subset of plant phenology observations drawn from the USA National Phenology Network’s National Phenology Database (www.usanpn.org). The data were collected by citizen and professional observers and archived and distributed by the USA National Phenology Network. Protocols are available in Denny et al. (2014). This datafile consists of plant phenology observations that were used in an effort to construct predictive models of phenophase transitions using accumulated growing degree days based on PRISM daily minimum and maximum temperature data. The phenology data were queried from the USA National Phenology Network on 9-25-16.
