We assessed the resilience of wetlands to sea-level rise along a transitional gradient from tidal freshwater forested wetland (TFFW) to oligohaline marsh by measuring processes controlling wetland elevation. We identified fundamental differences in how resilience is maintained across wetland community types, which have important implications for management activities that aim to restore or conserve resilient systems.

Mangrove restoration has a strong potential to enhance the services provided by coastal wetlands on a number of Department of the Interior (DOI) managed lands throughout the southeastern United States of America. Services include storm protection, water quality improvement, and biological carbon sequestration. Forest structural attributes including basal area, tree height, and stem density by species are used to calculate above ground biomass and above ground productivity. Percent cover is used to asses the forest canopy health. The data collected for the soils are: bulk density, percent total Nitrogen, percent total Carbon, and selected samples percent total Phosporus. The forest structure plots were placed in...
We investigated population dynamics in chorus frogs (Pseudacris maculata) relative to extrinsic (air temperatures and snowpack) and intrinsic (density dependence) characteristics at 2 sites in Colorado, USA. We used capture-mark-recapture (cmr) data (i.e., 1 or 0, provided here) and a Bayesian model framework to assess our a priori hypotheses about interactions among covariates and chorus frog survival and population growth rates. Files include: Cameron_Lily_cmr_NOV2020.csv, Cameron_Matthews_cmr_NOV2020.csv, and Cameron_covariates_NOV2020.csv. Data associated with paper by Kissel et al. 2021.

Characterizing genetic structure across a species’ range is relevant for management and conservation as it can be used to define population boundaries and quantify connectivity. Here, we characterized population structure and estimated effective migration in Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus). Our objectives were to (1) describe large-scale patterns of population genetic structure and gene flow and (2) to characterize genetic subpopulation centers across the range of Greater Sage-grouse. Samples from 2,134 individuals were genotyped at 15 microsatellite loci. Using standard STRUCTURE and spatial principal components analyses, we found evidence for four or six areas of large-scale genetic differentiation...

This dataset consists of one table with sample collection locations and results of screening resident wildlife for Cryptosporidium and Giardia in the Alaskan Arctic, 2012-2017. We analyzed feces collected from polar bear, Pacific walrus, Arctic fox, and caribou with MERIFLUOR direct immunofluorescence assay to determine the presence of Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts.

This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7513WCB. These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The dataset has six comma separated values (.csv) file exported from a Microsoft Access relational database. The data consist of percent cover and point contact data from algae and invertebrates at intertidal rocky substrate sampling sites. Tables include: 1) intertidal cover, 2) intertidal percent cover, 3) intertidal top layer percent cover, 4) intertidal substrate percent cover, 5) taxonomic classification, and 6) Gulf Watch Alaska contributors. This data package includes two child items with data from Pacific Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) during winter and migration periods. Child Item One: "Body mass, Morphological Measurements, Flock Counts, and Age-Ratios from Black Brant Overwintering in Three Lagoons Along the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico". The data include: (1) body mass and morphological measurements from sport hunter harvested brant, and (2) census counts of brant in Bahia de San Quintin, (3) counts for flock age ratio determination, and (4) behavior. Child Item Two: "Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) Radio Detection and Migration Timing Alaska to Mexico". Data from brant tagged with VHF radio transmitters in July 1999 on...

These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The dataset has one comma separated values (.csv) table with estimates of eelgrass (Zostera marina) percent cover. Eelgrass cover was estimated from sonar and video drop cameras deployed from boats following prescribed survey transects.

This data set describes nuclear microsatellite genotypes derived from six autosomal loci (AgCA222, Age7.1JT, BV13, BV20, NVH206, NVH195-2) in Cooper's Hawks. Samples originated from blood samples collected from live trapped birds. Version History: First release: December 2020 Revised: February 2022 (ver. 2.0)

This dataset contains observations of the distribution of end-of-summer snow cover on approximately 3000 glaciers across Alaska and Northwest Canada. The data are provided as: (1) GeoTIFF rasters indicating the spatial extent of end-of-summer snow cover on each glacier's surface in each year (one raster per glacier per year), and (2) yearly tables with the equilibrium line altitude and the accumulation area ratio of the glaciers derived from the snow cover extent geotiffs. Snow cover was identified in Sentinel-2 imagery using a random forest algorithm trained with a manually-created validation dataset. A series of post-processing steps were used to infill missing data from terrain shadowing and cloud cover, and...

Identifying migration routes and fall stopover sites of cinnamon teal (Spatula cyanoptera septentrionalium) can provide a spatial guide to management and conservation efforts, and address vulnerabilities in wetland networks that support migratory waterbirds. Using high spatio-temporal resolution GSM-GPS transmitters, we tracked the fall migration of 61 cinnamon teal across western North America over three years (2017-2019). We marked cinnamon teal primarily during spring/summer in important breeding and molting regions across seven states (California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada). We assessed migration routes and timing, detected 261 fall stopover sites, and identified specific ecoregions...

This data consists of egg morphometric data from white-faced ibis. Eggs were collected in the field and then measured and dissected in the lab to obtain estimates of length, width and mass. This data supports the following publication: Herzog, M.P., Ackerman, J.T. and Hartman, C.A., 2021. Egg morphometrics and egg shape coefficients for White-faced Ibis (Plegadis chihi). We initiated a project in 2011 to identify lake-wide movement patterns and spawning areas of invasive lake trout in Yellowstone Lake, WY. We implanted acoustic transmitters in lake trout and established a network of stationary telemetry receivers in Yellowstone Lake. Lake Trout tagged with acoustic transmitters (Vemco V - series) were tracked with stationary acoustic receivers (Vemco VR2W - 69 kHz) from 2011 to 2015. The number of active receivers ranged from 17 - 65 as short term goals of the project changed. Coordinates for each detection represent the location of the receiver reading the transmitter. Additionally, detection ranges can vary from apporximately 500 - 1200 meters (but see Vemco.com for more details)....
False positive occupancy analysis predictions with model uncertainty based on summertime data provided to support the status assessment (SSA) for Myotis lucifigus (MYLU). The objectives outlined by the Fish and Wildlife Service’s SSA team were to estimate summertime distributions across the entire species range. Statistical analysis included five types of response data requested from the North American Bat Monitoring Program database (NABat): automatically identified stationary acoustic calls, manually vetted stationary acoustic calls, automatically identified mobile acoustic calls, manually vetted mobile acoustic calls, and capture records. Statistical analysis was for the summertime distribution modeling, data...

We evaluated the expected success of habitat recovery in priority areas under 3 different restoration scenarios: passive, planting, and seeding. Passive means no human intervention following a fire disturbance. Under a planting scenario, field technicians methodically plant young sagebrush saplings at the burned site. The seeding scenario involves distributing large amounts of sagebrush seeds throughout the affected area.
