This model represents perhaps the first attempt at a Precambrian basement model for the Okanogan Highlands. It incorporates a wide variety of data sources from varying scales to as input to the basement model. However, significant improvements to the model are possible with additional data and refined methods. For example, study- wide 1:24,000-scale mapping would greatly improve the resolution of the mapped basement extent. Refined age dating for the Okanogan Core Complex would also address the age of the terrain and whether it is appropriate to include with Precambrian aged rocks. Refined methods of modeling in areas of shallow sediment thickness, would reduce the uncertainty in many areas. Incorporation of geophysical...

Field notes dating back to early 1900s are kept in the Washington Geological Survey library. Hundreds of volumes exist in the physical collection. Last notes in the library are from the 1980s when available space become a limitation. More recent notebooks are either retained by active staff or kept in the offices and at risk of being discarded. A storymap describing the collection is available at https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/77e291f5658a40af80029e025a8735e6

Geoscientific collections managed by Washington Geological Survey are aggregated in the National Digital Catalog to enhance discovery and use of valuable samples and data for further scientific research. Contact information and material access instructions are provided for the individual collections.

NOTE: This data release has been deprecated. Updated version is available: Reed, A.P, 2021, Modeled Stream Metabolism in Boulder Creek near Boulder, CO (2016 - 2018): U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/P991TMNQ. The data presented here was collected in the lower basin of Boulder Creek at an elevation of 1562 meters and 40.05166667 latitude, -105.1783333 longitude. Seasonal and annual variations in discharge are dominated by snowmelt events and water management practices. The data includes date sample collected, discharge (cubic meter per second), stream depth (meters), dissolved oxygen concentration (milligrams per liter), theoretical dissolved oxygen concentration at 100% saturation...

Metallic minerals are elements or compounds that are generally hard, shiny, malleable, and usually have good electrical and thermal conductivity and high density. These characteristics make them desirable for use in most of the products we use every day. We have electronically compiled thousands of documents, maps, and data from multiple sources to provide access to metallic mineral data in Washington State.
This dataset portrays the geology of Washington State at a scale of 1:100,000 (1 inch equals approximately 1.58 miles). The purpose is to make the geology of the state available as a seamless dataset for use in regional spatial analyses and other digital applications and for providing a framework for planning and land management and evaluating geologic hazards and resources.
This dataset is the result of a systematic search of the Washington Geology Library to locate unpublished (gray) literature on reconnaissance mapping, site studies, assaying, and other relevant sources. Once identified, items without copyright were scanned and made available digitally. Copyrighted items were added to an itemized list for reference. Both have metadata records and were made available to the NDC.
