The Sauk River, a fedrally designated Wild and Scenic River, is one of the few large glacier-fed rivers in western Washington that is unconstrained by dams and drains a relatively pristine landscape which includes Glacier Peak, a glaciated stratovolcano. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted a 5-year study (2012-2016 water years) of suspended-sediment and water temperature monitoring for the purpose of determining suspended-sediment loads and identifying sediment production regimes and associated seasonality of sediment transport. Monitoring occurred at three USGS streamgages on the Sauk River, including two long-term gages with more than 90 years of continuous record and a new gage installed for the purpose...

This data release provides information on the chemistry and character of bed sediments accumulated in the 1.6-mile long impoundment behind Enloe Dam on the Similkameen River in Okanogan County, WA. Sediment samples were collected during four weeks in October – December 2019. The sampling locations were distributed among 10 transects that ranged from 0.1-0.2 miles apart along the length of the reservoir. Surficial grab samples of bed material were collected at 27 locations representing the left, right or center of the channel cross-section where sampling was possible using a Ponar sampler. Sediment cores were collected with a Vibracore at 12 locations at or near the surficial grab sample transects, and discrete sediment...

This data release provides suspended-sediment (concentration and load) and water temperature data for two locations along the Suiattle River (USGS 12187900 and 12188380) and a tributary, Downey Creek (USGS 12187985) in Washington State for partial periods over 2013-2017. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected over two summer seasons from May through September 2016 and 2017 at USGS 12187900. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected that approximately covers the Water Year 2017, extending from October 24, 2016 to November 16, 2017 at USGS 12187985. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected from December 2013 through September 2017 at USGS 12188380. This...

This data release contains 3-meter gridded rasters of depth to bedrock below bathymetric surface, the thickness of unconsolidated sediment, and the volume of unconsolidated sediment within a 2.6-km reach of the Similkameen River, Okanogan County, Washington, impounded by Enloe Dam. These rasters were calculated from continuous resistivity profiles (CRP) surveyed using a SuperSting R8 8-channel resistivity meter with a CRP streamer containing a 100-m long array of 11 electrodes was towed behind a boat spaced at 10 m. After collection, the raw CRP files were georeferenced to coordinates concurrently by a global positioning system. Output files were merged and linearized. This was converted to a data file compatible...

Water temperature and the availability of cold-water refugia are important parameters during summer baseflows when stream water temperatures are at their maximum. The U.S. Geological Survey measured near-streambed and surface water temperatures along the lower Quinault River, on the Olympic Peninsula, Washington between August 9-12, 2016, during summer baseflow conditions. The survey occurred downstream from Lake Quinault from approximately River Kilometer (RK) 4 to approximately RK 49 (45 kilometers total). Near-streambed temperatures and water depths were measured at 1-second intervals, which occur on average at an approximately 1-meter water surface distance interval. Near-streambed temperature and depth were...

This data release contains time series data of suspended-sediment concentration and loads determined at five USGS streamgages in the Nooksack River Basin, Whatcom County, Washington: Nooksack River at Ferndale (12213100), Nooksack River at North Cedarville (12210700), North Fork Nooksack River below Cascade Creek near Glacier (12205000 ), Middle Fork Nooksack River near Deming (12208000), and South Fork Nooksack River at Saxon Road (12210000). For each streamgage, a 15- or 60-minute time series of suspended sediment concentration are computed from turbidity-based regression equations, and daily suspended sediment loads are calculated as the product of suspended sediment concentration and discharge multiplied by...

Measurements of suspended-sediment concentration and particle-size distribution were made in selected rivers located in Washington and Virginia with an in-stream, particle-size analyzer that uses laser-diffraction methods to measure the concentration and size of suspended particles. Measurements were made in 11 rivers from 2018 to 2019 using the LIST-SL2, a second-generation streamlined sensor that is part of the Laser In Situ Scattering and Transmissometry (LISST) series of instruments manufactured by Sequoia Science Inc. ( Any use of trade, product, or firm names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government, the authors, or their affiliations). Physical samples of sediment...

Water level, flow velocity, temperature, salinity, and turbidity were measured in a breach constructed in a flood-protection levee surrounding a restored former agricultural area in Port Susan, Washington, USA, near the mouth of the Stillaguamish River. Data were collected in a breach known as PSB1 at 15-minute intervals from March 21, 2014 to July 1, 2015 using a SonTek Argonaut-SW current meter, an In-Situ Aqua TROLL 200 pressure, conductivity, and temperature sensor, and an FTS DTS-12 turbidity sensor.

This data release includes time series data of stage, water velocity and water quality parameters at multiple locations in the tidally-influenced reaches of the Nisqually River and McAllister Creek, and tidal channels of the Nisqually River Delta. In total, time series data were collected at multiple sites from February 11, 2016 to March 19, 2018 during separate but generally overlapping periods over a range of tidal and hydrologic conditions for augmenting hydrodynamic models that will be used to inform river delta restoration alternatives. Time series data were collected at 10 sites in the study area: 3 sites in the lower Nisqually River, defined here as the tidally-influenced reach downstream from Mounts Road;...
