HySpex by NEO (HySpex) VNIR-1800 and SWIR-384 imaging spectrometer radiance data were acquired on September 14, 2017 at the Cresson Pit of the Cripple Creek & Victor mine in Cripple Creek, Colorado. ASD FieldSpecⓇ NG data were collected on September 13 and 14, 2017 at two calibration sites within the Cresson Pit imaged with the HySpex imaging spectrometers. The HySpex VNIR-1800 imaging spectrometer is a push broom type instrument that utilizes 1800 pixels to collect 186 channels of spectral data in the region of 400 to 1000 nanometers (nm). The spectral sampling interval of the HySpex VNIR-1800 is 3.26 nm with a 17° field of view (Norsk Elektro Optikk AS, 2016b). The HySpex SWIR-384 imagining spectrometer is a push...

Mineral predominance data were a derivative product from the Corescan© reflectance data. Corescan Hyperspectral Core Imager Mark III (HCI-III) system data were acquired for hand samples, and subsequent billets made from the hand samples, collected during the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 2014, 2015, and 2016 field seasons in the Nabesna area of the eastern Alaska Range. This area contains exposed porphyry deposits and hand samples were collected throughout the region in support of the HyMap imaging spectrometer survey (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7DN435W) (Kokaly and others, 2017a). The HCI-III system consists of three different components. The first is an imaging spectrometer which collects reflectance data with a...

Measurements of reference materials were made on the Corescan© HCI-III to evaluate the supplied channel wavelength positions and bandpass values. Wavelength position and bandpass of channels in a spectrometer, referred to as full-width half max (FWHM) in the contractor's documentation (Corescan_Product_MetaData_v3.pdf), are two fundamental spectral characteristics that need to be known in order to spectrally identify minerals by comparison to a spectral library, like the Material Identification and Characterization Algorithm (MICA) analysis used to generate the mineral predominance maps. Spectrometers with finer bandpass can reveal greater spectral detail that can be related to a material’s chemical composition...

Atmospheric particulate matter deposited to snow cover diminishes snow-surface albedo and results in early onset and rapid snow melting, challenging management of downstream water resources. We present here physical and chemical data from snow samples from 14 sites during the melt seasons of water years 2013-16 across 60,000 km2 of the central Rocky Mountains within the Upper Colorado River basin. The samples represented the last remaining particulate-laden surfaces after individual dust layers and particles from background fallout had merged. The samples were examined for relations among properties of spectral reflectance, types and amounts of light absorbing particles (LAPs), chemical composition, and particle...

A full description of all collection and processing steps is included in this data release as: ‘SmithCreekPlayaNV_16aug2022_ProcessingSteps.pdf’. Reflectance data were collected using Malvern Panalytical ASD FieldSpec® 4 Hi-Res NG Spectroradiometers with custom VNIR gratings (hereafter referred to as ASD spectrometers) on August 16, 2022, at a field site in Smith Creek Valley, Nevada, USA. The ASD spectrometers used have a spectral range of 0.35 to 2.5 micronswith 2151 channels of data reported (Malvern Panalytical, 2018). Reflected sunlight was measured with the bare fiber (no fore optic), having a field of view of ~22 degrees, while traversing the area of the field site. Additional measurements of reflected artificial...
