These data sets present results from the analyses of groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells and monitoring intervals in bedrock wells in the mudstone aquifer underlying the former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. The water samples were collected between 2008 and 2013 and were analyzed for field parameters, inorganic and organic constituents, and the abundances of selected microbes of importance to the evaluation of biological degradation of organic contaminants in groundwater. The collection and analyses of the groundwater samples coincides with conducting a bioaugmentation experiment in a targeted region of the mudstone aquifer. The purpose of the bioaugmentation was to introduce...
Hydrology of Fractured Rocks: My research objectives currently focus on characterizing the heterogeneity of fractured rock properties, and understanding the role of this heterogeneity in groundwater flow, chemical transport, and contaminant remediation. I conduct this research through methods development, field investigations, and numerical modeling. For example, recent research involves numerical modeling of multiple cross hole field aquifer tests in fractured rocks to test hypotheses about the spatial distribution of hydraulic conductivity at different scales. My research also includes collaboration on a range of topics with objectives related to contaminant characterization and remediation in fractured rocks....
This dataset contains passive seismic data collected using a three-component seismometer during 2018-2020 at Pinnacles National Park, California. The data were acquired for the purpose of estimating depth to the bedrock surface underlying alluvial deposits, using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique. Data were collected along ten transects, with 3 to 14 points collected along each transect, and at the locations of 6 existing or abandoned wells. A total of 81 passive seismic measurements were collected and the raw data are included in this dataset. The passive seismic data record ambient seismic noise in the range of approximately 0.1 to 1 Hertz (Hz), which is caused by ocean waves, large regional...

This data release presents pumping rate data, water-level drawdown and recovery data, and atmospheric pressure data collected during 48 pumping tests conducted in 2015 and 2016 for a hydraulic tomography field experiment in the mudstone aquifer underlying the former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. The pumping rate data include rates measured by in-line flow meters and rates measured manually by recording the time to fill a known volume with the pump discharge water. The water-level drawdown data include drawdowns measured by fiber-optic pressure transducers, and drawdowns measured by strain-gauge transducers. For many tests, water-level recovery data are also provided, which measure the change...

This dataset includes streamflow measurements collected at six sites in Pinnacles National Park during 2018. Data collection occurred at times when the streamflow did not include runoff from precipitation. The wading method was used to measure streamflow (Nolan, K.M. and Shields, R.R., 2000, Measurement of stream discharge by wading, U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 2000-4036, 106 p.). By this method, the stream channel cross section is divided into subsections. For each subsection, a tape measure is used to measure the distance from the left stream bank (as facing downstream), a wading rod is used to measure the channel depth, and a velocity meter attached to the wading rod is used to...

These datasets contain microbial community data from groundwater samples collected at an in situ bioremediation site located at the former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. DNA was extracted from groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells at the NAWC study site from July 2008 through July 2015 and analyzed for microbial community structure. Sample collection coincided with a groundwater bioremediation experiment investigating the microbial degradation of the contaminant trichloroethylene (TCE) prevalent in the targeted region of the aquifer. Nutrient addition and a microbial consortium, commercially developed to stimulate the degradation of TCE and TCE byproducts, was introduced to the...
