Carbon dioxide (CO2) is under consideration as a chemical fish deterrent at pinch points in rivers (e.g., inside locks) to reduce unwanted fish passage. This study evaluated the behavioral responses of invasive round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) to dissolved CO2 in laboratory tanks. The goal of this project was to quantify CO2 concentrations that modify round goby behavior. More specifically, avoidance behavior (voluntary response) and loss of equilibrium (involuntary response) were quantified across 5, 15, and 25°C water temperatures. Spreadsheet includes data that were used to evaluate the mixing efficiencies of liquid-to-liquid chemical injection manifolds. Specifically, piping designs were developed to deliver fisheries chemicals (e.g. carbon dioxide) into water to control the movements of invasive bigheaded carps. These data describe mixing time, homogeneity and efficacy of carbon dioxide delivery using various piping designs. Results provide recommendations for piping configurations that could be installed within navigational locks to deliver invasive species control chemicals. This study deployed acoustic telemetry into a red swamp crayfish-infested water retention pond (1.0 ac) near Novi, Michigan to document the movements and behavior of telemetered red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). Telemetry was setup in the pond for approximately 3 months. Spreadsheets include telemetry data with position estimates for individual crayfish.
Locks and dams are possible management points to block the spread of invasive Asian carps in the United States. Resource managers need effective methods to limit the spread of invasive Asian carps (Hypophthalmichthys spp.) into new areas. This study evaluated carbon dioxide (CO2) as a barrier and deterrent to Asian carps in a small outdoor pond. This data was collected to determine responses of red swamp crayfish and rusty crayfish to CO2-enriched water to determine the utility of CO2 as a crayfish control tool. These datasets (e.g., 'Starved Rock fish clearing_multi-beam imaging sonar fish data_Pre-clearing_Sonar-s1.csv') include exported information (e.g., fish detection counts) from processed fixed-location multi-beam imaging sonar and mobile side-scan sonar data. Fish abundance in the navigation lock was determined using mobile side-scan surveys, while multi-beam imaging sonars were used to determine fish counts relative to time (i.e., fish per minute). The datasets were used to examine the efficacy of electricity and underwater acoustics, used in tandem, to affect fish abundance (as determined by hydroacoustic data sampling).

This dataset accompanies the article "Upstream experience and experimental translocation of invasive bigheaded carps results in increased upstream passage success at a navigation lock in a large river". The data come from the experimental capture and tagging of invasive bigheaded carp with acoustic transmitters and physically moving some groups farther downstream. These transmitters emit signals that are detected and recorded on receivers that are strategically placed above, within, and below Mississippi River Lock and Dam 19 (LD 19).
