The Central Mojave Special Features shapefile provides point locations for known or potential places where vegetation alliances or unique stands occurred (from 1997-1999) with less than 5 hectares of spatial extent. These designations were provided separately from the Mojave Vegetation Polygons because the target standard for the polygons was a minimum mapping unit (MMU) of 5 hectares, thus methods used at the time to assign labels precluded mapping these special features as polygons. The special features points are still included because it is important to note the known or potential location of vegetation alliances for future mapping at finer spatial resolution. The metadata record (Mojave-Vegetation-Mapping_Special-Features-Points-Metadata.xml)...

In May 2021, the Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC) of the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS), Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) acquired airborne multispectral high resolution data for the Colorado River in Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. The imagery data consist of four bands (Band 1 – red, Band 2 – green, Band 3 – blue, and Band 4 – near infrared) with a ground resolution of 20 centimeters (cm). These image data are available to the public as 16-bit GeoTIFF files, which can be read and used by most geographic information system (GIS) and image-processing software. The spatial reference of the image data are in the State Plane (SP) map projection using the central Arizona zone (FIPS 0202)...

The Central Mojave Vegetation Polygons shapefile represents areas of the Mojave Desert classified into vegetation classes or alliances representative of the area from 1997-1999. The classification of these areas were derived from context gathered in the field data, photographs and additional satellite imagery that is not included in this data release. The original map coverage was preserved and released as a shapefile (mojave_veg_polygons.shp). In contrast to the Special Features Points vegetation classifications (described in the Special Features Points shapefile metadata record and ScienceBase item), the Central Mojave Vegetation Polygons were designated by vegetation alliances that extended 5 hectares or more....

These data were compiled to provide seed transfer and native plant materials development guidance to managers and practitioners across the Colorado Plateau and in adjacent regions. This data release contains empirical seed transfer zones derived from molecular genetic data for Cleome serrulata (syn. Peritoma serrulata), Heliomeris multiflora, and Astragalus lonchocarpus. These species show distinct population structure (i.e., genetic differentiation) across their ranges; as such, seed transfer zones reflect both patterns of genetic differentiation and information on each species' unique adaptations to climatic gradients. These shapefile data may support successful restoration outcomes if, for example, seed transfer...

These data are compiled from published studies of various subspecies of the slider turtle (Trachemys scripta) from throughout the native range of the species in the United States. Data include sample sizes of adult male and female turtles as well as various estimates of their body size as noted in the Comments column.

The Large River Monitoring Forum compiled fish assemblage data for five large rivers in the U.S. as a part of a coordinated effort to compare and contract river monitoring efforts in large river systems. Fish community data from five monitoring programs were integrated to create the standardized dataset. Authors: Timothy D. Counihan1, Ian R. The Mojave Plots Points data are 1,219 plot locations in the Central Mojave Desert where field data were recorded and photographs were taken from 1997-1999 to provide context for the classification of the Central Mojave Desert into various vegetation classes. The 1,219 plot locations in the plots points shapefile (plots_points.shp) are each assigned a unique identifier called the FinalPlotCode. The FinalPlotCode can be used to match the shapefile points to the Mojave Field Data. The attached CSV file (Mojave_Images_Crosswalk.csv) can be used to relate the FinalPlotCodes to the associated photographs that are attached as zipped TIFF images to the ScienceBase page. There are 1,695 total photographs available that...
