These model archive summaries document the surrogate regression models developed to estimate 15-minute suspended-sediment concentrations at three streamgage sites in Colorado: Anthracite Creek above Mouth near Somerset, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site number 09132095; Muddy Creek above Paonia Reservoir, USGS site number 385903107210800; and North Fork Gunnison below Raven Gulch near Somerset, USGS site number 385553107243301. The methods used follow USGS guidance as referenced in relevant Office of Surface Water Technical Memorandum (TM) 2016.07 and Office of Water Quality TM 2016.10, USGS Techniques and Methods, book 3, chap. C5 (Landers and others, 2016), and (or) USGS Techniques and Methods, book 3, chap....

This data release accompanies a U.S Geological Survey study that assessed sediment, salinity, and selenium yields following the Dead Dog wildfire in northwestern Colorado. The Dead Dog fire ignited on June 11, 2017, near Rangely, Colorado, and burned over 17,000 acres, including the B2 study area. Two methodologies were used to quantify erosion and associated salinity and sediment yields in the B2 study area: (1) modeled soil loss post-fire using a physically based erosion model, and (2) measured post-fire volumetric soil erosion and deposition using a time series of digital elevation models (DEMs) created from Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery. The first methodology used a physically based erosion model, the...
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides benthic algae data collected from the upper White River Basin, Colorado, during August 2020 and July 2021. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. The dataset includes samples collected at 20 USGS water-quality sites. Benthic algae were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level, and abundance (density) and biovolume are reported.

This dataset includes benthic algae community composition data in the Colorado River near Cameo, Colorado, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site number 09095500, from 2022 to 2023, and from three sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, in 2022. Taxonomic classification of algae species is not known well in theses rivers, and this study was conducted to record different algae species present in each river system. Benthic algae were typically identified as genus or species, and biomass and biovolume were provided for taxa. The U.S. Geological Survey completed data collection in upper White River Basin in cooperation with the White River Conservation District, and the Colorado River data collection was funded...

Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) flights were conducted over four stream catchments in Rio Blanco County, Colorado, during the summer of 2016. Two sties had active oil and gas operations within the basin whereas the other two sites did not. Structure from motion (SfM) was used to align raw images and create a dense point cloud, georectified orthoimage, and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for each basin. A Digital Terrain Model (DTM), or bare earth model, for each basin was created by reclassifying the dense point cloud as either bare ground or other (vegetation, oil and gas infrastructure, etc.) and interpolating the land surface between bare ground points. Ideally, the DTM would always be equal or lower than the DEM;...
