The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the State of Arkansas made a bathymetric survey of the Black River from Popular Bluff, Missouri, to Pocahontas, Arkansas from July 12—25, 2018. One hundred sites were surveyed at pre-established transect locations along a 131-mile reach at distances spaced from about 0.1 to 4.8 miles apart. River-channel cross sections were surveyed to determine water depths along each transect using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). Positional location of the water-depth locations was obtained from a global positioning system receiver onboard the ADCP. Water-surface elevation at the water-depth locations was computed using vertical control points collected at the...

Note: this data release has been superseded by version 2.0, available here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9V75F9Q. Two nonnative bigheaded carp species have invaded the Illinois River system and are a potential threat to the Great Lakes ecosystem. Discharges from industry, wastewater treatment plants, and urban and agricultural runoff, may be a factor contributing to the stalling of the upstream movement of the bigheaded carp population front near Illinois Waterway mile 278. In 2015, the U.S. Geological Survey collected 4 sets of water samples under a range of seasonal and hydrologic conditions from 3 locations upstream and 4 locations downstream from river mile 278 using a Lagrangian-style sampling strategy. Water...

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. Memphis Lake (locally known as Lake Showme) is a water supply lake used by the city of Memphis in northeastern...

Streamflow wading measurements were made on March 26, 2014 within the Deer Creek watershed in St. Louis County, Missouri, following U.S. Geological Survey methods in Turnipseed and Sauer (2010). This effort occurred during a date and time void of rainfall or snowmelt runoff to properly evaluate a base-flow condition. Measuring locations were chosen based on inflow junctions (for example open channel tributaries or pipe outflows) such that main stem streamflow could be evaluated above and below the inflow. A total of 31 main stem and 25 inflow streamflow measurements were made over 9 miles along the main stem reach of Deer Creek starting at Magna Carta Drive. This data release includes a table of the streamflow...
