The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Illinois Center for Transportation and the Illinois Department of Transportation, prepared hydro-conditioned geographic information systems (GIS) layers for use in the Illinois StreamStats application. These data were used to delineate drainage basins and compute basin characteristics for updated peak flow and flow duration regression equations for Illinois. This dataset consists of raster grid files for elevation (dem), flow accumulation (fac), flow direction (fdr), and stream definition (str900) for each 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) area in Illinois merged into a single dataset. There are 51 full or partial HUC 8s represented by this data set: 04040002,...

This page describes simulations of the drift of grass carp eggs in the lower Sandusky River, Ohio, using the Fluvial Egg Drift Simulator (FluEgg) model version 3.1.0 (Garcia and others, 2013; Zhu, 2019). Inputs and outputs from 127 simulations are included. FluEgg simulated transport and dispersion of grass carp eggs from a selected location using the spawning time and age of the eggs collected during an ichthyoplankton survey on July 12, 2017 (King and Kočovský, 2021). Drifts of grass carp eggs were simulated for a reach of the lower Sandusky River from the Ballville Dam to the confluence with Muddy Creek Bay. The Ballville Dam, which was a physical barrier to upstream migrating fishes, was in place during the...

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. Monroe City Lake (locally known as Route J Reservoir) is a water supply lake used by the city of Monroe...

This data release contains a national compilation of state-level qualitative and quantitative guidance for a variety of environmental indicators that are used to identify the presence of a harmful algal bloom (HAB) in freshwater ecosystems. These include qualitative guidelines based on visual or olfactory signals, as well as quantitative guidelines based on cyanotoxin concentrations, algal biomass density, and chlorophyll a concentrations. Many states in the United States have adopted guidelines based on recommendations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the World Health Organization. However, a few states have also developed their own guidelines. We are specifically focused on fresh, inland waters...

Water temperature (degrees Celsius) and specific conductance (microsiemens per centimeter at 25 degrees Celsius; TC) were measured at U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05536995, located at Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal near the Electrical Dispersal Barrier System in Romeoville, Illinois. The TC data were measured every five minutes at four gage height levels above the gage datum (P1 = 21 feet, P2 = 17 feet, P3 = 13 feet, P4 = 9 feet). The gage datum is 551.76 feet above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Daily mean and five-minute water temperature and specific conductance data were downloaded from the National Water Information System (NWIS) database and stored in Comma Separated Values (CSV)...

As part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) project template 774-18 entitled “Development of monitoring and response methodologies, and implementation of an Adaptive Management Framework to work towards Eradication of Grass Carp in Lake Erie” an integrated bathymetric/hydrodynamic/water-quality survey of the Maumee River (Ohio) was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the summer of 2019. These data were collected to inform the development of a one-dimensional hydraulic model and associated Fluvial Egg Drift Simulator (FluEgg) model of the Maumee River downstream from Defiance, Ohio. The data contained in this data release were collected by the USGS Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center...

Datasets of suspended sediment concentration and percent fines, sampling information, and daily streamflow data were compiled and harmonized for 16 sites to better understand sediment transport and delivery in the Lower Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers. The compiled data were harmonized by removing unnecessary columns, screening data for laboratory or sampling issues, creating consistent entries for character columns, and dropping irrelevant data, among other steps. Fourteen of the sites are in the Lower Mississippi-Atchafalaya River Basin with two additional sites on the Middle Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Suspended sediment concentration (total, all size fractions) and percent fines for multiple size fractions...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) and depth-averaged velocities in comma-delimited table format, generated from hydrographic and velocimetric surveys near highway bridge structures over the Missouri River between Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri, May 19–26, 2021. Hydrographic data were collected using a high-resolution multibeam echosounder mapping system (MBMS), which consists of a multibeam echosounder (MBES) and an inertial navigation system (INS) mounted on a marine survey vessel. Data were collected as the vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines distributed throughout the reach. Data collection software integrated and stored the depth data from the MBES and the...

In June 2017, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)collected borehole geophysical logs to characterize the shallow alluvial aquifer in and near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Borehole geophysical logs were collected from nine shallow boreholes to identify geophysical properties of the aquifer in the area surrounding the boreholes. Electromagnetic induction logs were used to determine the electrical properties of the fluid and formation surrounding the borehole. A natural gamma tool was used to identify the naturally occurring gamma radiation that is emitted from the earth materials. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) tools were used to measure the water content and estimate the pore-size distribution and hydraulic conductivity (K)...

Near-real-time stage data from the streamgage may be obtained from the USGS National Water Information System database at https://doi.org/10.5066/F7P55KJN. Flood...
The text file "Near_Surface_Soil_Hydrology_measurements.txt" contains discrete measurements of soil hydrologic characteristics including unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, and soil penetrometer (compaction) measurements for selected deconstruction lot pairs and restored prairie in St. Louis, Missouri. Data were collected from August 28, 2019, through July 14, 2020. Data for matched and adjacent Legacy and Green deconstruction lots and restored prairie sample sites were collected on the same day to minimize temporal variability in site conditions.
