A number of visitor planning frameworks that include visitor information have been developed to assist wilderness area managers in defining and managing for wilderness experiences. This task is made difficult, however, by the fact that significant diversity may exist amongst visitors with respect to their perceptions of acceptable wilderness conditions. One promising approach to managing for diversity is the delineation of a series of opportunity classes or experience zones, defined on the basis of the range of normative standards expressed by visitors.
