This is a shapefile and the final unioned polygon coverage used to calculate coal resources of the lower Blackhawk Formation in the southern Wasatch coal assessment area. Polygons that make up the final unioned polygons include counties, 7.5' quadrangles, townships, surface and coal ownership, reliability, overburden categories, and net coal thickness categories. The final unioned coverage was clipped by the resource boundary polygon, which is described in the metadata file for the shapefile WS_BND.

This is a polygon coverage of the outcrop of the John Henry Member of the Straight Cliffs Formation east of 112 degrees of longitude in the Kaiparowits Plateau, southern Utah. This polygon was used to represent the areas underlain by the Calico Sequence boundary. This polygon was also used as the "outside" clipping polygon for several of the data layers including the overburden and isopach coverages. The northern boundary is delineated by the Paunsaugunt fault and volcanic rocks of Tertiary age.

This is a polygon coverage and shapefile that contains undivided Upper Cretaceous rocks that include (in descending order) the Smoky Hollow and Tibbet Canyon Mbs. of the Straight Cliffs Fm., and the Tropic Shale and Dakota Fm. This coverage shows where these rocks are exposed along the outcrop and are buried in the subsurface in the Kaiparowits Plateau study area, southern Utah. The base of the Dakota Fm. was used to define the Kaiparowits Plateau for areas east of 112 degrees of longitude. The northern boundary is delineated by the Paunsaugunt fault and volcanic rocks of Tertiary age.

The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown herein as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic...

The hydrogen index (HI) is a parameter obtained from Rock-Eval data which reflects general hydrocarbon generation and maturation trends in petroleum systems. In the Mississippian Barnett Shale, the hydrogen index was used to map general boundaries between regions of oil and gas generation within the extents of the formation. Hydrogen index values were obtained via Rock-Eval analyses of Barnett Shale core samples. In this system, HI values greater than 100 represent primarily oil generation and HI values less than 100 represent primarily gas generation. Secondary gas generation is indicated by HI values less than 50. In addition, the 100 HI line was utilized to establish part of the assessment unit (AU) boundaries...

The maturation contours show vitrinite reflectance trends and ranges for petroleum system horizons within the Southwestern Wyoming Province. The horizons are the base of the Niobrara Formation, the top of the Frontier Formation, the base of the Mesaverde Formation, the top of the Mesaverde Formation/base of the Lewis Formation, and the top of the Lewis Formation. The ranges of vitrinite reflectance shown for the Niobrara horizons are 0.6, 0.8-1.3, and 1.3. The ranges for the top of the Frontier are less than 0.6, less than 0.8, 0.6-0.8, 0.8-1.3, and greater than 1.3. The ranges for the base of the Mesaverde are less than 0.6, 0.6-0.8, 0.8-1.1, 1.1-2.0, greater than 1.1, greater than 1.3, 2.0-2.2, greater than 2.0,...

This reflects a collection of tabular, geospatial and textual information from 3 CD-ROMs published in 1995 and 1996 from the USGS in support of the 1995 National Oil and Gas Assessment Project. This includes USGS DDS Series 30, 35 and 36. This collection was available online through various web platforms hosted by USGS Central Energy Resources Science Center / Central Energy Team since initial recovery from the CD's in early 2000's. This contains the data collection from the original data archives. Over 11,000 files are part of this collection, with 1,524 shapefiles, 648 PDFs and 189 Tab-delimited data files. Limited qa/qc was performed on this due to time constraints and acknowledging that this is a representation...

A cells polygon feature class was created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to illustrate the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in the State of Kentucky. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown or dry. Data were retrieved from the Kentucky Oil and Gas Well Records database and saved as a shapefile of oil and gas well locations for Kentucky. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying...

Coalbed Methane wells are provided as a method for analysis and illustration of the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each point represents a well location and is symbolized as producing oil, gas, both oil and gas, or other (dry or unknown) using the status code in the attribute table. Data were provided by the Wyoming State Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. See supplemental information section for limitations and assumptions about data.
