The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Colorado Springs Utilities, has been collecting topographic data annually since 2012 at 10 study areas along Fountain Creek, Colorado. The 10 study areas are located along Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs and the confluence of Fountain Creek and the Arkansas River in Pueblo. This data release presents topographic survey data, Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) survey data, and elevation rasters collected or generated during 2020 as part of that monitoring effort. Topographic survey points were collected using real-time kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK-GNSS). These point data, along with lidar point clouds, were used to generate 2020 digital...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Air Force Academy, carried out bathymetry surveys to better characterize the 2019 water supply capacity of Deadmans Lake; Golf Course Reservoir 9; Ice Lake; Kettle Lakes 1, 2, and 3; and Non-Potable reservoirs 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado. The bathymetry surveys were carried out between October 15, 2019, and December 12, 2019, using a man-operated, boat-mounted, single-beam echo sounder integrated with real-time kinematic (RTK) Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Terrestrial surveys were carried out during the same time period using RTK GNSS and covered the dry shorelines of lakes and reservoirs. Survey points from...

In 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Upper Colorado River Wild and Scenic Stakeholder Group, studied the magnitude and recurrence interval of streamflow needed to initiate bed movement of gravel-sized and finer sediment in a segment of the Colorado River in Colorado to better understand sediment movement and its relation to flow regimes of the river. Two stationary hydrophone systems were installed on April 23, 2019 at the above Catamount Bridge stationary hydrophone site (above Catamount Bridge site), and two were installed on April 24, 2019 at the Radium stationary hydrophone site (Radium site). Pebble counts of coarse surface particles (greater than 2 millimeters [mm; 0.00656 foot]) were...

Bed movement occurred more frequently and at lower streamflows from State Bridge to Catamount Bridge compared to the study area upstream from State Bridge. Two longitudinal hydrophone profiles were carried out at different streamflows to collect underwater acoustic data using hydrophones throughout the study area on June 6-8, 2019 (June 6-8 longitudinal...

Bed movement occurred more frequently and at lower streamflows from State Bridge to Catamount Bridge compared to the study area upstream from State Bridge. Two independent and complementary lines of evidence were collected to detect incipient bed movement. Two stationary hydrophone systems were installed on April 23, 2019 at the above...
