Water scarcity is a growing concern in Texas, where surface water is derived almost entirely from rainfall. Changes in air temperature and precipitation patterns associated with global climate change are anticipated to regionally affect the quality and quantity of inland surface waters and consequently their suitability as habitat for freshwater life. In addition to directly affecting resident organisms and populations, these changes in physicochemical traits of aquatic habitats may favor the establishment of harmful invasive species. Using previously published (Robinson and others, 2019) no-flow fractions and L-moments of nonzero streamflow from decadal streamflow flow-duration analysis (daily mean streamflow), probability distributions were fit to provide 27 estimated quantiles of decadal flow-duration curves, and hence the probability distributions are a form of parametric modeling that ensures monotonicity of the quantiles by non-exceedance probability (NEP). This dataset provides numerical and categorical descriptions of 48 basin characteristics for 956 basins with observed streamflow information and 9,314 ungaged basins coinciding with 12-digit hydrologic unit code (HUC12) pour points that drain to the Gulf of Mexico. Imputed salinities from either salinity or specific conductance observations and covariate data in data structures deemed suitable for statistical modeling of salinity in near-coastal environments of the northern Gulf of Mexico are provided for 15 salinity groups. The data herein were created by the 'covardr2formodel.R' script of 'covESTUSAL software' (Asquith and others, 2023), which represents terminal decisions on variable setup and transformations. The design ideal is data downloaded from this data release would be used in some path of “input” within statistical modeling software. This data release consists of statistical predictions of daily salinity time series generated from the makESTUSAL software repository described by Asquith and others (2023b). The statistical methods included multiple methods of machine learning, which produced the daily salinity prediction and attendant credible uncertainties included in the data release. Censored and uncensored generalized additive models (GAMs) are developed from 955 U.S. Geological Survey streamflow-gaging stations (streamgages) to predict decadal statistics of streamflow. The streamgages are located on streams draining to the Gulf of Mexico. Decadal statistics include no-flow fractions and selected L-moments of nonzero streamflow for six decades (1950s—2000s).
