These data were collected during a travel time and dissolved oxygen study along a 1-mile reach of the Blue River downstream from 58th Street in Kansas City, Missouri. The study was a cooperative effort between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Urban Waters Federal Partnership program, and the Kansas City, Missouri, Water Services Department. This is part of a larger USGS effort supporting the Middle Blue River Basin Urban Waters Federal Partnership. This data release contains continuous water-quality measurements (Blue_River_CQWM.csv), rhodamine dye sensor data (Blue_River_dye_profiles.csv), analytical data from synoptic water-quality samples (Blue_River_QWDATA.csv), manual...

This data release contains daily time series estimates of natural streamflow at 5,439 GAGES-II non-reference streamgages in 19 study regions across the conterminous United States from October 1, 1980 through September 30, 2017, using five statistical techniques: nearest-neighbor drainage area ratio (NNDAR), map-correlation drainage area ratio (MCDAR), nearest-neighbor nonlinear spatial interpolation using flow duration curves (NNQPPQ), map-correlation nonlinear spatial interpolation using flow duration curves (MCQPPQ), and ordinary kriging of the logarithms of discharge per unit area (OKDAR). NNDAR, MCDAR, NNQPPQ, and MCQPPQ estimates were computed following methods described in Farmer and others (2014), with...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) in compressed LAS (*.laz) format, generated from the August 22–24, 2022, hydrographic survey of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal (CS&SC) and sections of the Chicago River and North Branch Chicago River in Cook County, Illinois. The survey extends from the Cook County line near Interstate 355 in the southwest upstream to the Chicago Harbor Lock on the Chicago River in the northeast, and northward on the North Branch Chicago River to the North Avenue Turning Basin in the north. Hydrographic data were collected using a high-resolution multibeam echosounder mapping system (MBMS), which consists of a multibeam echosounder (MBES) and an inertial navigation...

The Cook County Bureau of Technology (BOT) identified a need for bathymetric and water-quality surveys of the surface water bodies within Cook County to inform management of surface-water and stormwater resources, aid emergency responders during search and rescue operations, inform construction permitting, and improve understanding of aquatic habitat. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the BOT worked closely together to designate specific water bodies to be surveyed. The size, accessibility, availability of existing data, and use of the water body were considered during selection. The objectives of this joint study between the USGS and the BOT are to collect, process, and analyze bathymetric and ancillary water-quality...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Little Rock District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducted a bathymetric survey of the Black River from Clearwater Lake Dam near Piedmont, Missouri, to southern Butler County, Missouri, from June 16-19, 2020 and from June 22-24, 2020. One hundred and eight sites were surveyed at pre-established transect locations along a 45-mile reach at distances spaced from about 0.3 to 2 miles apart. River-channel cross sections were surveyed to determine water depths along each transect using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). Positional location of the water-depth locations was obtained from a global positioning system receiver onboard the ADCP. Water-surface...

These data are high-resolution bathymetry (riverbed elevation) in compressed LAS (*.laz) format, generated from the August 1–3, 2022, hydrographic survey of the Calumet River and Calumet Sag Channel in Cook County, Illinois. The survey extends from the junction with Lake Michigan in the northeast downstream to the junction with the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in the southwest. Hydrographic data were collected using a high-resolution multibeam echosounder mapping system (MBMS), which consists of a multibeam echosounder (MBES) and an inertial navigation system (INS) mounted on a marine survey vessel. Data were collected as the vessel traversed the channel along overlapping longitudinal survey lines distributed...

This data release contains values of 29 streamflow statistics computed from modeled and observed daily streamflows from October 1, 1983, through September 30, 2016 at 1,257 streamgages in the 19 study regions defined by Falcone (2011) covering the conterminous United States. The streamflow statistics were computed at GAGES-II non-reference streamgages (Falcone, 2011), determined to be affected by only irrigation or regulation among anthropogenic influences. At each streamgage, statistics were computed from daily streamflow observations, from daily streamflow time series computed using the National Hydrologic Model-Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (NHM-PRMS) model (the “by headwater” and "by observation" calibrations...

This data release provides water-quality trends for rivers and streams in the Delaware River Basin determined using the Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) model and the Seasonal Kendall Trend (SKT) test. Sixteen water-quality parameters were assessed, including nutrients (ammonia, nitrate, filtered orthophosphate, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and unfiltered orthophosphate), major ions (calcium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and sulfate), salinity indicators (total dissolved solids and specific conductance), and sediment (total suspended solids and suspended sediment concentration). The child items include the input and output data used in the modeling and testing of water-quality...

The U.S. Geological Survey monitors water surface flow reversals, commercial vessel traffic, and temperature and specific conductance in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Electric Dispersal Barrier System, EDBS, on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, Chicago, Illinois. This data release is the 2018 water year summary of the EDBS monitoring data. Water surface flow reversals at the EDBS are monitored using surface velocity radar. Commercial vessel traffic patterns through the EDBS are documented using a motion-activated video camera. Temperature and specific conductance are reported in near real-time from USGS sensors installed just downstream of the EDBS.

This data release describes the watershed data management (WDM) database SC19.WDM. The precipitation data are collected from a tipping-bucket rain-gage network and the hydrologic data (stage and discharge) are collected at USGS streamflow-gaging stations in and around DuPage County, Illinois. Hourly precipitation and hydrologic data for the period October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019, are processed following the guidelines described in Bera (2014) and Murphy and Ishii (2006) and appended to SC18.WDM and renamed as SC19.WDM....

Water-supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities throughout Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water-supply. Many of the water-supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013 (Huizinga, 2014); however, years of potential sedimentation may have resulted in reduced water storage capacity. Periodic bathymetric surveys are useful to update the area/capacity table and to determine changes in the bathymetric surface. In April and May 2023, the USGS, in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) and...
On November 4-7, 2019, bathymetric data were collected on the Sandusky River between Tiffin and Fremont, Ohio. Wading measurements were made at cross-sections shallower than about 1 foot using a survey pole with a Trimble R10 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver connected to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) real-time virtual reference station (VRS) network. Cross-sections that were deeper than about 1 foot were measured with a CEE-ECHO single-beam echosounder mounted to a canoe. A Trimble R10 GNSS receiver connected to the ODOT real-time VRS network was mounted directly above the echosounder and integrated with the echosounder data collection unit to convert measured depths to bed elevations....
