WorldClim is a set of global climate layers (climate grids) with a spatial resolution of about 1 square kilometer.
The PRISM Climate Group gathers climate observations from a wide range of monitoring networks, applies sophisticated quality control measures, and develops spatial climate datasets to reveal short- and long-term climate patterns. The resulting datasets incorporate a variety of modeling techniques and are available at multiple spatial/temporal resolutions, covering the period from 1895 to the present. Whenever possible, we offer these datasets to the public, either free of charge or for a fee (depending on dataset size/complexity and funding available for the activity).
NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), located in Asheville, North Carolina, maintains the world's largest climate data archive and provides climatological services and data to every sector of the United States economy and to users worldwide. Records in the archive range from paleoclimatology data to centuries-old journals to data less than an hour old. The Center's mission is to preserve these data and make them available to the public, business, industry, government, and researchers.
The DDC has been established to facilitate the timely distribution of a consistent set of up-to-date scenarios of changes in climate and related environmental and socio-economic factors for use in climate impacts assessments. The intention is that these new assessments can feed into the review process of the IPCC.
Climate Wizard Custom is a new tool where a user can define a relatively small geographic area of interest and conduct site-specific analyses using both historical data and possible future conditions that are based on low (B1), moderate (A1B), and high (A2) carbon emissons scenarios. Sixteen general circulation models are available to provide a range of possible outcomes, and users can analyze absolute and percentage changes in annual, seasonal or monthly climate conditions in graphic or map form. The Customized Online Aggregation & Summarization Tool for Environmental Rasters (COASTER) system ( www.COASTERdata.net) was developed by Yellowstone Ecological Research Center (YERC) ( www.yellowstoneresearch.org) in response to the information needs of end-user communities interested in decision-support for natural resource management. The COASTER system currently contains over 10 terabytes of climate data from several sources. These datasets have daily temporal resolutions, spatial resolutions ranging from 1km to 330km, and temporal extents ranging from 30 to 64 years (1948-2011). The West Texas Mesonet is an independent project collaborating with the Atmospheric Science Group and the National Wind Institute at Texas Tech University. Mesonet stations give real-time meterological data. Network of 89 mesonet stations and seven boundary layer SODAR units covering 60 counties in the Texas Panhandle, South Plains, Rolling Plains, Permian Basin, Trans Pecos, Concho Valley, Big Country, Edwards Plateau, Hill Country and eastern New Mexico.
Climate Wizard enables technical and non-technical audiences alike to access leading climate change information and visualize the impacts anywhere on Earth. The first generation of this web-based program allows the user to choose a state or country and both assess how climate has changed over time and to project what future changes are predicted to occur in a given area. ClimateWizard represents the first time ever the full range of climate history and impacts for a landscape have been brought together in a user-friendly format.
The datasets on this page have been developed by AdaptWest, a project funded by the Wilburforce Foundation to develop information resources for climate adaptation planning. The data are based on the Parameter Regression of Independent Slopes Model (PRISM) interpolation method for current climate, and the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5 (CMIP5) database corresponding to the 5th IPCC Assessment Report for future projections.
