This data release presents a peak-flow frequency analysis for U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05481510 Bluff Creek at Pilot Mound, Iowa. The annual peak-flow record at this streamgage consists of both a discrete crest-stage period and a continuous partial-record period. The streamgage, which is in the Des Moines River Basin, is located on 130th Street in Pilot Mound, Iowa. Drainage area at the streamgage is 23.5 square miles. Annual peak-flow data are available for the period 1966-2021. The peak of record, 1,290 cubic feet per second, occurred on June 16, 1990. The annual peak-flow data used in the frequency analysis were downloaded from the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System database (U.S....

Please see the detail in new data release at https://doi.org/10.5066/P146RBHK This text file "Solar radiation.txt" contains hourly data in Langleys and associated data-source flag from January 1, 1948, to September 30, 2016. The primary source of the data is the Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois. The data-source flag consist of a three-digit sequence in the form "xyz" that describe the origin and transformations of the data values. They indicate if the data are original or missing, the method that was used to fill the missing periods, and any other transformations of the data. Bera (2014) describes in detail an addition...

The bathymetric data set was collected in Rock Run on Dec. 10, 2015 by USGS ILWSC staff Clayton Bosch and Louis Pappas. The bathymetric data were collected with an RD Instruments 1200 kHz ADCP (S/N 8617) and Trimble Ag 162 GPS mounted on the M/V La Moine. A temporary reference point (TRP) was established on the north side of the footbridge over the connecting channel to the Des Plaines River. The mean water surface elevation (504.97 feet, WGS 84) during the survey was established from a temporary reference point whose elevation was later established by GPS survey. The measured depths were then converted to a lake bed elevation. The location and depth data were compiled into a bathymetry dataset (Rock Run Bathymetry...

This dataset contains a summary of the characteristics of near-surface flow reversals at the Electrical Dispersal Barrier System (EDBS) on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal at Romeoville, Illinois during Water Year 2018 (October 1, 2017, to September 30, 2018). Water velocity near the water surface is measured on a five-minute sampling interval in the EDBS using surface velocity radar at nine measurement cells on a cross section near U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05536995 (Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal at Romeoville, Illinois). Flow reversal events are analyzed for each individual cell as well as for the average velocity over all nine cells. For the analysis of individual cells, a flow reversal event is...

Water temperature (degrees Celsius) and specific conductance (microsiemens per centimeter at 25 degrees Celsius; TC) were measured at U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05536995, located at Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal near the Electrical Dispersal Barrier System in Romeoville, Illinois. The TC data were measured every five minutes at four gage height levels above the gage datum (P1 = 21 feet, P2 = 17 feet, P3 = 13 feet, P4 = 9 feet). The gage datum is 551.76 feet above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Daily mean and five-minute water temperature and specific conductance data were downloaded from the National Water Information System (NWIS) database and stored in Comma Separated Values (CSV)...

The WDM database SC17.WDM is updated with the quality-assured and quality-controlled (QA/QC) data from October 1, 2017, through September 30, 2018, and renamed as SC18.WDM. Meteorological data (wind speed, solar radiation, air temperature, dew point temperature, and potential evapotranspiration) and the three digit flags corresponding to wind speed, solar radiation, air temperature, and dew point temperature are copied from ARGN18.WDM and stored in this database. Data in dataset number (DSN) 107 and 801–810 are used in comparisons of precipitation data. DSN 107 contains hourly precipitation data collected at Argonne National Laboratory at Argonne, Illinois. DSN 801-810 contains the processed Next Generation Weather...

A motion-activated video camera documented the passage of commercial tows through the Electric Dispersal Barrier System (EDBS) on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal at Romeoville, Illinois, over the period October 17, 2019, to September 30, 2020. Videos were manually screened and analyzed to extract tow characteristics including date and time of video recording, number and configuration of barges, loading of barges (loaded, unloaded, or mixed), direction of travel, and bow type (rake or box). Only commercial vessels were logged and no identifying data about the tow vessels were maintained. All videos triggered by recreational vessels or other objects were permanently removed from the database during analysis. Any...

These data files include georeferenced water-quality data with associated time stamps (Central Standard Time) for basic water-quality parameters as measured by a towed multiparameter sonde (YSI 6920 sonde) from a manned boat in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. Data were collected on February 25-27, 2010, and again on March 2-3, 2010. The data collected in February 2010 had the sonde on a fixed mount about 1 foot below the surface. The data collected in March 2010 had the sonde on a towed cable about 7-9 feet below the surface. All data have been edited and reviewed. Omitted data have been flagged with a data value of -9999 in the data files.

These data files include georeferenced water-quality data with associated time stamps (CDT) for basic water-quality parameters (temperature, specific conductivity, pH, and dissolved oxygen) for 13 stationary multi-parameter sondes in the vicinity of the lake water release structure. One stationary sonde also collected chlorphyll and turbidity data. These data were collected at 5 minute intervals. Cross-sectional water-quality data (basic water-quality parameters plus chlorophyll and turbidity) were also collected at three transect lines (40-50 feet wide) located in the outlet channel downstream of the structure at varying time intervals. All sonde probes were located approximately 1.5 to 2.5 feet below water surface....

The study at Lemont replicated and expanded upon seismic data collected at that location in 2011 as well as evaluated the pressure field created in the water by the water gun. The replicate data were collected with the water gun placements and input pressure identical to the 2011 study, but added static underwater pressure monitoring. Two 80-in³ water guns were suspended below a platform at depths of 4 and 14 feet. Pressure values were lower when only the gun suspended at 4 feet was fired as compared to firing the single gun at 14 feet and both guns simultaneously, with the latter two producing similar pressures. Data were collected to assess the pressure field produced by two 80-in³ water guns suspended at a depth...
The text file "Air temperature.txt" contains hourly data and associated data-source flag from January 1, 1948, to September 30, 2017. The primary source of the data is Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne National Laboratory, 2017) and is processed following the guidelines documented in Over and others (2010). Missing and apparently erroneous data values were replaced with adjusted values from nearby stations used as “backup”. The Illinois Climate Network (Water and Atmospheric Resources Monitoring Program, 2015) station at St. Charles, Illinois is used as "backup". Each data source flag is of the form "xyz" that allows the user to determine its source and the methods used to process the data (Over and others, 2010)....
