Algal growth potential tests using the green algae Raphidocelis subcapitata (=Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata = Selenastrum capricornutum) were performed on ambient waters collected from 6 Idaho streams from September 7 to 21, 2007. Tests were conducted by a contract laboratory, GEI/Chadwick Ecological Division, Littleton, Colorado.

Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge and Season (WRTDS) and WRTDS with Kalman filtering (WRTDS_K) models were developed for total and dissolved cadmium, zinc and lead; total phosphorus and nitrogen; and dissolved orthophosphate at twelve sites in the Spokane River watershed, northern Idaho, for water years 1990 to 2018. The data table contains the annual mean concentrations and annual total loads estimated by WRTDS_K, and the flow-normalized annual mean concentrations and flow-normalized annual total loads estimated by WRTDS for each modeled site and constituent.

From 2008 to 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, developed an acoustic backscatter surrogate (model 1.0) for estimating real-time suspended-sediment concentration and loads at Clearwater River at Spalding, ID (USGS ID: 13342500) using a horizontally-mounted 3000kHz acoustic Doppler velocity meter (ADVM). This study is a continuation of the 2008 to 2012 acoustic backscatter surrogate study using samples collected since 2015 to validate the continued use of model 1.0. Sample data collected in 2015 to 2018 show a deviation from model 1.0 when backscatter data from the ADVM, after correction for acoustic losses, is greater than 65.7 decibels....

A three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework model (3D HFM) of the westernmost western Snake River Plain (WSRP) aquifer system was prepared to represent the subsurface distribution and thickness of four hydrogeologic units. The primary source of data for the 3D HFM was lithologic data from a total of 291 well-driller reports. These data were then processed using Rockware Rockworks17 three-dimensional modeling software. This dataset consists of five comma-delineated CSV files containing well information: location, lithology, well construction, aquifer, and comments. It is one of three related datasets.

In 2009, the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho released and implemented the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Master Plan. This plan aimed to restore, enhance, and maintain the Kootenai River habitat and landscape to support and sustain habitat conditions for aquatic species and animal populations. In support of these restoration efforts, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetric surveys, velocity surveys, and collected images of substrate in the Lower Meander Reach (RM 143 - 145.5). This data release contains bathymetry, velocity, and substrate data from surveys performed on the Kootenai River between 2012 and 2019 as part of...

This dataset describes the quantity, morphology, and polymer identity of microplastics in the water column and surficial sediments of Milwaukee-Area streams, the Milwaukee Harbor, and Lake Michigan (Wisconsin). Water samples were collected at 10 locations, 2-4 times each, from May to September, 2016. At the 4 shallowest locations, water was collected only at the water surface. At the remaining 6 locations, water was collected at the water surface and at 1-4 depths below the surface. Sediment samples were collected once, in June 2016, at a subset of 9 locations. Sampling and analysis methods are described in the Processing Steps section of the metadata. These data are interpreted in the following journal article:...

In March 2024, the U.S. Geological Survey New Mexico Water Science Center (NMWSC) and Idaho Water Science Center (IDWSC), in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), completed bathymetric and topographic surveys on the San Juan River near Farmington, NM at the USBR Navajo Gallup Water Supply Project (NGWSP) intake and outfall structure. The bathymetric and topographic data provide coverage near the structures and banklines for an 800-foot length of the San Juan River. This data release contains an integrated bathymetric and topographic point cloud dataset and an interpolated DEM.

This data set includes summary statistics and trend analysis results of various analytes from groundwater samples in Idaho (1990 to 2016).
A long history of mining and widespread metals contamination in the Spokane River watershed have led to the area's designation as a Superfund site and extensive, ongoing remedial actions. Long-term (water years 1990 to 2018) water-quality data from twelve sites were used to develop Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge and Season (WRTDS) and WRTDS with Kalman filtering (WRTDS_K) models for total and dissolved cadmium, zinc and lead; total phosphorus and nitrogen; and dissolved orthophosphate. The models estimated annual mean concentrations and annual total loads, and flow-normalized annual mean concentrations and flow-normalized annual total loads. Flow-normalized annual mean concentrations and flow-normalized...

Pollutant loads have been increasing over time in the Elk River, B.C. due to coal mining operations and runoff from associate spoil piles. The Elk River is a tributary to the Kootenay/Kootenai River and Lake Koocanusa. Extensive water chemistry monitoring has been conducted in Lake Koocanusa to assess the impacts from the Elk River, however, this is not the case for the Kootenai River downstream of Lake Koocanusa, downstream of Libby Dam (http://deq.mt.gov/DEQAdmin/LakeKoocanusa). This study generated data on selenium and nutrient concentrations and loads in the Kootenai River (Libby Dam to Canadian border), which will help to differentiate between local loads and loads transported via Lake Koocanusa. Working in...
