This data set contains information for each NGWMN gw site for the conterminous US of Distance with MOHP values. MOHP is the distance from the GW site to its watershed Divide (DSD) and Lateral Position (LP) distance at 90-meter cell resolution for NHDPlus version 2 stream orders 1 through 9. This paper (https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2019WR025908) provides examples of using MOHP metrics as explanatory factors in random forest machine learning models (2 examples of categorical response variables and 2 continuous response variables). These data have been used as predictors of depth to water table across the U.S. Distance is in meters. This data set includes the follwoing variables:

It also contains various associated files that were used in assembeling and producing this dataset. Percentiles of monthly gw levels from the National Ground Water Monitoring Netowrk. This folder contains percentiles from the levels record for monthly data from USGS groundwater wells stored in NGWMN. Each of these zip folder contains percentiles calculated on these monthly groundwater levels for the time period specified in the title. Both continuous montitoring sites and tapedowns were condenced to monthly values by taking the first level measurement that occred within the month. Sites with more than 1/3 of month values missing from the time period were excluded. Each daily flow was grouped 2 different ways with flows in the month, and all site values. Average daily mass content of water in 4 soil layers (kg/m2) derived from NLDAS for GAGESII basins (1981-2021). The 4 different soil layers iare 0 - 10 centimeters (cm), 10 - 40cm, 40 - 100 cm, and 100 - 200 cm. Data were processed from hourly North American Land Data Assimilation System Phase 2 datasets (NLDAS-2.0 in netCDF format) for daily averages and further incorporated into annual files, one for each year in the period of record (1980 - 2020. Units are mass of water in kilograms per square meter (kg/m2).
