This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides phytoplankton data collected from Stagecoach Reservoir, Colorado, during the summer months, July through September, of 2017 and 2018. The data were collected by the USGS, in cooperation with the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District and Colorado Parks and Wildlife. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. The dataset includes all routine and quality-assurance and quality-control samples collected at the sampling site on Stagecoach Reservoir at Dam (USGS site 401707106495800). Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level, and abundance (density) and biovolume are reported.

In 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Upper Colorado River Wild and Scenic Stakeholder Group, studied the magnitude and recurrence interval of streamflow needed to initiate bed movement of gravel-sized and finer sediment in a segment of the Colorado River in Colorado to better understand sediment movement and its relation to flow regimes of the river. Bed movement occurred more frequently and at lower streamflows from State Bridge to Catamount Bridge compared to the study area upstream from State Bridge. The Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 (Public Law 111-11) was passed into law on March 30, 2009. Sub-title F of the law, also known as the SECURE (Science and Engineering to Comprehensively Understand and Responsibly Enhance) Water Act, calls for the establishment of a “national water availability and use assessment program” in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). These data were used to describe a possible approach to estimate changes in invertebrate taxa richness at sites across the United States with known water-quality trends but no invertebrate data. This data release consists of invertebrate, water-quality, and covariate data from 1,322 sites and water-quality, covariate, and trend result data from an additional 259 sites with reported water-quality trends but no invertebrate data. Three synoptic sampling campaigns were conducted on upper Cement Creek, near Gladstone, Colorado, under low-flow conditions. The first campaign, conducted October 2012, was part of a larger campaign to characterize low-flow water quality in the entire Cement Creek watershed. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Colorado Springs Utilities, has been collecting topographic data annually since 2012 at 10 study areas along Fountain Creek, Colorado. The 10 study areas are located along Fountain Creek between Colorado Springs and the confluence of Fountain Creek and the Arkansas River in Pueblo. This data release contains SnowModel snow evolution simulation output on a 100-meter (m) geospatial grid for a 311 kilometer (km) × 300 km model domain in Colorado, United States, encompassing the Colorado and Gunnison River Basin headwaters in the Upper Colorado River Basin. The phenylpyrazole insecticide fipronil and its degradates are a potential surface-water contaminant and toxicant to nontarget species such as aquatic macroinvertebrates. To better understand how fipronil, fipronil sulfide, fipronil sulfone, desulfinyl fipronil, and fipronil amide affect aquatic communities, a 30-day mesocosm experiment was run. Rock trays were colonized with natural benthic communities in the Cache La Poudre River in the mountains of northern Colorado and transplanted into a laboratory experimental stream setting. This data release includes data provided by Colorado Springs Utilities to the U.S. Geological Survey. Two types of data are included here. First are daily average effluent discharge rates from the Las Vegas Street Wastewater Treatment Facility and JD Phillips Water Resource Recovery Facility along with the sum of rates on dates with available data. Second are daily total volumes of potable water delivered to customers as summed from multiple facilities. The data were released by Colorado Springs Utilities, which performed its own quality control checks on the data. This data release contains SnowModel snow evolution simulation output from water years 2022 to 2023 (October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2023) on a 100-meter (m) geospatial grid for a 3 kilometer (km) × 2 km model domain near Coal Creek off Coal Bank Pass in the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado, USA.
